Job Summary:
The VOD Operator is responsible for providing internal and external support for Video-On-Demand (VOD) content distribution activities for Walt Disney Television's (WDT) broadcast and cable networks including ABC Television Network, Disney Channel Networks, Freeform, FX Networks, and National Geographic Networks.
The VOD Operator is a key point of contact for VOD delivery and CableLabs ADI metadata management, and is accountable for database accuracy and assuring the technical compliance requirements of our VOD partners. A successful candidate in this role must have the ability to self-motivate and work in a detail-oriented, fast paced, multi-network environment. This role will interact with many internal and external Disney partners such as Media Services, Broadcast Operations, Programming, Sales, Ad Sales, Media Engineering, and Marketing. This role provides critical support to multiple teams, both internal and external, and must deliver a high level of customer service at all times.
Responsibilities:
• Provide timely communication and resolution to incoming affiliate MVPD inquiries and support requests
• Execute distribution delivery planners and communicate delivery schedules to all entitled affiliates and MVPDs.
• Execute communication of takedown alerts and affiliate alerts for high profile content deliveries and programming priorities
• Redeliver VOD packages to affiliates/MVPDs, as requested. Track affiliate/MVPD issues
• Oversee automated and manual Aspera VOD and DAI ads and promos deliveries to MVPDs, and monitor all distribution to ensure timeliness of deliveries and steady state of ecosystem
• Confirm all entertainment programming assets are delivered as scheduled by programming teams
• Perform daily reporting and tactical tasks related to Canoe DAI assets/metadata, Nielsen VOD TIC Encoding data, and daily management of DAI Google reports with Ad Sales
• Perform deliveries of media using internal and external applications and tools including Aspera, Signiant, Media Monorail, Mediator, Jellyroll, Aspera and Media Monorail to any North American client
• Manage failures in VOD workflow including trouble shooting automation, manually packaging content when necessary, providing operational support to our VOD affiliate partners and ensure all deliveries ordered can be fulfilled in a timely manner
• Be a subject matter expert in all department workflows, databases, and software
• Be a part of a strong, high functioning team that's able to effectively and efficiently execute assignments
• Ensure the prompt resolution of high level issues related to file integrity, media attributes, and content compliance
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and assist in documenting department processes
• Have an attitude of continuous improvement
• Assist manager in developing, maintaining and enforcing media management, storage and content security policies.
• Liaison with various WDT departments and provide a high level of customer service
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in media packaging and distribution
• 3 years of media distribution and television operations experience
• Broadcast/Cable television, Studio, or Post Production house experience is preferred
• Results oriented with the ability to balance competing business considerations.
• Flexibility to work all shifts; including weekends, nights, and holidays
• Must be a team player with exceptional communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of audio/video file formats, television standards, film formats, codecs, bitrates, frame rates, video resolutions, aspect ratios, broadcast audio configurations and electronic delivery technologies.
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products and related technology
• Must work well with little or no supervision and have a strong attention to detail
• Understanding of Aspera SFTP software and CableLabs ADI packaging spec
• VOD content delivery and management skills are a plus, including knowledge of industry trends in the non-linear space
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in media packaging and distribution
