Full Time Unpaid Internship
Job Summary:
ABC News Media Relations team is responsible for the overall communications and media relations strategy for ABC News including its television broadcasts ''World News Tonight with David Muir,'' ''Good Morning America,'' ''Nightline,'' ''This Week with George Stephanopoulos,'' ''20/20,'' and other platforms including ABCNews.com, ABC Audio, and the network's affiliate news service ABC NewsOne. The team is responsible for the day-to-day publicity efforts and the long-term communications strategy for ABC's broadcasts, anchors, and correspondents.
Responsibilities:
A day in the life…
As the team's intern, you will provide needed assistance in a variety of publicity and media relations efforts, working closely with the media relations coordinator and publicity directors of ABC News shows.
This may include:
• Assembling daily press clips for distribution to the news division
• Creating and updating media lists
• Drafting press releases and weekly show highlights for listings
• Pitching and staffing press/photographers at the weekly ''Good Morning America'' summer concerts
• Creating content – including tweets and photos, etc. – for the ABC News social media accounts
• Updating correspondent and executive bios
• Ongoing press research and coverage reports for show publicists
Basic Qualifications:
What you bring to the role…
• Proven skills utilizing MS Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Previous media relations and/or publicity internship experience
• Strong writing skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Understanding of social media and how to create interesting, informative and engaging posts
• Responsible, dependable, and organized with excellent communication skills
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
Junior or Senior-level standing, or a recent graduate within 6 months of graduation date
Previous internship experience at a media/entertainment company
Career interest in media relations/publicity or broadcast journalism
Additional Information:
Internship Eligibility:
• All students must possess unrestricted work authorization
• All students must be at least 18 years old
• At the time of application, you must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months
• Must be willing to relocate to the New York City area and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
Program Dates:
• All candidates must be available from May/June to August/September
• All candidates must be willing to work 40 hours/week
