Job Summary:
The ABC News Medical Unit is seeking a fulltime health and medical editorial producer/editor with reporting experience who is comfortable translating complex scientific research into accessible, understandable information for a mass audience with the utmost journalistic and medical integrity.
The ideal candidate is a rock-solid self-starter who is comfortable talking with medical doctors, public health officials and healthcare consumers alike. The priority of the position will be the delivery of fact-based, accurate information to the news division for reporting. You should have a passion for empowering viewers with health-related information through inspiring personal narratives and cutting edge audio and visual technology.
A proven track record as a top notch medical journalist, producer or researcher is required.
Responsibilities:
• Reviewing medical studies, articles and scripts for absolute accuracy and appropriate context.
• Researching, developing and executing production plans.
• Writing or editing digital articles and scripts across major platforms within the network.
• Helping manage the prestigious medical resident elective program.
• Maintaining relationships with research institutions and specialists to develop a pipeline of story ideas.
• Pitching stories and angles to ongoing stories that constantly inform ABC News viewers, keeping in mind needs of all different platforms at ABC News.
Basic Qualifications:
• A medical writer, producer or reporter with at least five years' experience. Or an experienced scientific researcher with a Masters, PhD or MD
• Extensive experience investigating medical studies for methodology, statistical significance, bias, limitations, causation, correlation or association. Ability to evaluate the impact and practical implications of studies.
• Maintain genuine curiosity and a knack for finding answers in rapid order.
• Strong writing and research abilities.
• Familiar with consumer health, wellness and medical outlets and journals.
• Enthusiasm for being part of a team, the ability to pitch stories and comfortable discussing limitations to a variety of colleagues.
• Flexible work schedule in breaking news situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
