Job Summary:
ABC News is hiring a Multimedia Reporter.
Responsibilities:
This Multimedia Reporter is responsible for reporting and writing Washington-based stories and politics stories in coordination with the DC teams and the wider news division, and also conducting their own original reporting. This person is also responsible for writing DC-related live blogs that are launched during events such as key congressional hearings, debates, and breaking news situations.
This reporter is also expected to coordinate coverage with the senior editors and the teams responsible for videos, photos, social media and platforms.
The ideal candidate is a digitally savvy journalist who can work quickly and smartly in a highly competitive environment to generate story ideas and pitches, and execute them on deadline.
Candidate will have a strong sense of how to approach a story holistically – weaving together feeds, their own reporting, videos, photos and social embeds to create stories that are sharp, informative and highly visual. The role is based at ABC News' bureau in Washington, D.C.
Although a key part of the role is managing text stories, the person in this role is also responsible for coordinating other key editorial elements and liaising with the wider newsgathering operation as well as broadcast units and audience development teams.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years' experience reporting/writing for a major digital news outlet.
• Ability to write on deadline with speed and accuracy.
• Proven experience handling breaking news.
• Experience with web publishing and AP style.
• Ability to balance priorities, multiple projects and tasks.
• Brings energy and positivity to the group dynamic.
Required Education
BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience
Preferred Education
Master's degree in journalism from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
