Job Summary:
The Manager, VOD Distribution Operations will be responsible for providing technical and customer service support for distribution of Walt Disney Television (WDT) Video-On-Demand (VOD) programming, including ABC Television Network, Disney Channel Networks, Freeform, FX Networks, and National Geographic Networks content.
This role will oversee a team of approximately 5 people who are accountable for providing management and affiliate support for 70 terrestrial distribution end points. The Manager will interface with all VOD affiliates, ensuring timely delivery of VOD content and serve as a technical contact for VOD support for WDT. This role will also oversee distribution of Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) enabled VOD packages, including DAI advertisement and promo assets. The Manager will oversee and maintain various components of business critical processes, including documentation and reporting for the VOD delivery workflows. This position requires experience in communicating with internal and external partners on complex materials questions related to CableLabs ADI, XML metadata, Aspera file transfer, and VOD rejections/replacements.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with cross functional technical stakeholders to develop media distribution workflows that drives upstream and downstream efficiencies. Identify and/or validate improvement opportunities. This includes defining critical customer requirements and developing business processes
• Manage and maintain CableLabs ADI XML metadata requirements, with a specific focus on customizing category mappings and control tags that meet the individual needs of Multi-Video Programming Distributors (MVPDs) receiving our VOD content
• Manage and maintain automated and manual Aspera VOD and DAI ads and promos deliveries to MVPDs, and monitor all distribution to ensure timeliness of deliveries and steady state of ecosystem
• Document and maintain key processes for VOD workflows; Map processes and document inputs and outputs, while identifying critical measures to evaluate the success of our VOD distribution workflows and critical customer requirements
• Confers with Senior Management to identify, develop, and resolve replication and standardization opportunities in an evolving distribution environment
• Manage MVPD affiliate VOD and DAI on-boarding with vendors
• Trains and supervises performance of VOD Distribution Specialist staff. Manage staff schedules and ensure staffing is covered 365 days a year. Lead weekly cross functional team meetings. Ensure processes and workflows are continuously followed, reinforced, and measured
• Participate in special projects such as new business and product development and other ad hoc tasks as required
Basic Qualifications:
• 5 years working experience at a National Broadcaster with CableLabs VOD distribution accountabilities. Familiarity with Canoe Dynamic Ad Insertion workflows required
• Ability to make quick and decisive determinations for operational procedures, operational contingency and disaster mitigation.
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products and related technology
• Ability to focus on transformational business practices that align with future trends in technology
• Highly organized with focus on attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
• Proven analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a team of exempt and non-exempt employees
• Exceptional communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Ability to comprehend and communicate technical engineering and operational theory to skilled engineers, other employees, and external partners
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree required or relevant work experience in media packaging and distribution
