Director, Media Planning (Nat Geo & DBT)
Job Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join a new Media Team within the Disney Branded Television and National Geographic content marketing team of Disney General Entertainment (DGE). Our marketing team is responsible for Disney Channel, Disney Junior, DisneyXD, Disney Original Documentary, National Geographic, National Geographic Wild and National Geographic Documentary Films content across linear channels, Disney and Hulu platforms. Our content spans many genres reaching many audience segments from kids and family animation or scripted content to inspiring documentaries to natural history and premium non-fiction.
The Director, Media Planning is responsible for developing paid media strategies and overseeing the execution of campaigns that drive awareness, viewership, engagement and brand affinity for our linear networks or DTC platforms. This leadership position will be the day-to-day contact for some of our top tier titles from strategic development to flawless execution.
This position is a key touchpoint for how our marketing campaigns are brought to life to our consumers and requires a strong understanding the paid media landscape. Strong management and training skills are required to oversee a growing team of media experts.
This is a fast-paced, multi-faceted position that requires strategic thinking, attention to detail, organization and communication, while being able to manage several projects concurrently.
Responsibilities:
• Strategic development and execution of traditional and digital media campaigns to include:
• Linear TV planning in the Upfront marketplace
• Digital executions that often include programmatic DSPs, social media, SEM, platform set up, 1P data, tagging/pixel set up, digital taxonomy, working with internal sourcing and legal to understand status of contracts and Disney guidelines to adhere to
• All media types including, but not limited to: TV (national and local broadcast and cable, satellite, addressable, FEP), CTV, terrestrial radio, digital audio, OOH, digital display, digital video, programmatic, custom content, print, search, social and influencers
• Managing paid media campaigns working with agency partners to execute – developing media strategy, reviewing RFPs and flowcharts, proofing media buys, determining creative rotation, supervising the manager and coordinator in execution of media plans, tracking performance and optimizing campaigns, providing summaries/reporting/analysis as needed
• Oversee flawless execution of the off-air deliverables process for paid campaigns, managing media teammates, coordinating with media agency, trafficking agency and internal departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials
• Collaborate with research department and marketing strategy to identify key audience segments and affinity targets, understand media habits and identify ways to reach each segment to reach program goals
• Brief agency partners and develop campaign timelines to align with ideal flighting strategies
• Develop integrated campaigns with internal marketing stakeholders and communicate timely updates to various internal/external partners
• Create and present one-sheets and presentations to articulate media plans and ideas with broader teams and DGE executives
• Supervision and training of Manager(s), Associate(s) and Coordinator(s) based on campaign assignments
• Contribute to the development of organizational processes
• Manage campaign budgets and invoices while tracking spending for all campaigns and ensure efforts stay within budget and vendors are paid on time
Basic Qualifications:
• 8 years of experience in media planning
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Sense of urgency for fast-paced entertainment industry
• Experience managing a team
• Strong project management skills and attention to detail required
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
• Agency or in-house media experience preferred
• TV/Streaming experience preferred
• Kids marketing experience a plus
• Upfront planning experience preferred
• Working across east/west coasts experience a plus
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree required; B.A. in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications preferred OR Equivalent Work Experience
