The ABC Owned Television Stations group includes WABC-TV New York, KABC-TV Los Angeles, WLS-TV Chicago, WPVI-TV Philadelphia, KGO-TV San Francisco, KTRK-TV Houston, WTVD-TV Raleigh-Durham and KFSN-TV Fresno. The eight owned stations reach 23% of all U.S. television households. The stations are consistently market leaders in multiplatform local news, collectively #1 in local news among Adults 25-54 for 11 consecutive broadcast seasons, as well as #1 in overall digital audience, video consumption and social reach and engagement.
We are seeking an accomplished leader for the Director of Business Strategy and Operations position, responsible for supporting the formulation and execution of ABC Owned Television Stations' growth and profitability strategies and initiatives. This high-impact role requires extensive experience in leadership and influence, superior strategic thinking, proven analytical acumen and excellent communication skills. A team-oriented attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential to be successful in this role that spans from M&A work to strategic assessment of new business opportunities to technology and operations projects.
This individual will be responsible for the analysis, presentation, and execution of existing and potential strategic and operational initiatives, helping ABC OTV to seize emerging opportunities, effectively monetize new and existing local content, improve cross-functional efficiency and transparency, and align overall thinking. She/he must possess a demonstrated ability to collaborate across a diverse range of stakeholders, including multiple levels of management and functional areas within ABC OTV and across The Walt Disney Company.
This role will be highly focused on interacting with the finance and technology teams across ABC OTV, as well as partner with content, digital, business development, and ad sales teams and station management. The Director plays a critical role in providing long-term strategic planning and decision support for new business opportunities, investment and other key initiatives across ABC OTV, as well as ensuring the financial and operating efficiency and effectiveness of ABC OTV. The role reports to the SVP of Business Strategy and Operations for the ABC Owned Television Stations, and is based in Burbank.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate and coordinate with members of OTV's lines of business in the development of key growth initiatives, ensuring progress toward desired business outcomes
• Define and analyze new revenue streams for ABC OTV, such as streaming, business development and OTT opportunities, including development of business plans, valuation and financial models
• Lead teams to develop quantitative, assumption-driven models of business opportunities and operational initiatives and formulate useful insights
• Evaluate and support the execution of M&A, investments and strategic alliances opportunities in light of ABC OTV's strategic direction
• Create compelling, persuasive presentation materials to communicate key learnings and recommendations to senior level executives, distilling complex situations into strategic options
• Monitor and analyze consumer and industry trends, competitive financials and changes in competitive landscape
• Evaluate and capitalize on trends and technology across the industry and broadcast landscape to drive the growth objectives of ABC OTV
• With Finance, drive the Long Range Plan and Annual Operating Plan processes for ABC Owned Television Stations
• Serve as primary contact for WDT strategic, business development and corporate development opportunities
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience
• Must possess strong strategic and analytical skills combined with solid business and financial acumen
• Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver presentations
• Able to create visually compelling presentations, including communicating complex ideas and data sets graphically in an effective way
• Manage complex projects with minimal direction
• Excellent quantitative skills, including significant financial modeling and data analyses experience
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Charismatic, dynamic leader with the ability to define a clear vision and lead, integrate and manage work across distributed teams
• Executive presence with exceptional ability to influence and drive decisions
• Proven ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities, strong work ethics and superior project management skills
• Able to maintain both a rigorous attention to detail and a big-picture, strategic mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience at a premier management consulting firm, internal strategy team or investment banking
• Understanding of the television, news, digital technology and/or media markets / business models
• Experience in executing M&A transactions
• Familiarity with working in or with large organizations
• Proven ability to effectively lead teams and partners through change
