Disney Entertainment's eight-owned ABC stations are multiplatform leaders in local news and information. As the No. 1 station in Philadelphia for almost 45 years, 6abc Action News delivers local news, information, traffic and weather to more than 3 million homes. WPVI serves close to 7 million people, 2+ who reside in the Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. In the past year, Action News has won 2,633 out of 2,662 newscasts in households for a winning percentage of 99.8%. On average, Action News captures nearly 45% of all adult news viewers, 25-54. WPVI has provided coverage of the Thanksgiving Day Parade for 100 years in 2019!
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Operations Center (TOC) Editor to join our dynamic team. This hybrid technical/editorial role is critical to ensuring the seamless acquisition, routing, and editing of live and recorded content for broadcast. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced news environment, possess strong troubleshooting skills, and demonstrate a passion for delivering high-quality content.
What You Will Do
• Monitor, manage, and route all incoming live and recorded feeds via microwave, satellite, fiber, IP streams, and web-based sources.
• Collaborate with field crews, reporters, producers, and control room staff to coordinate live and breaking news coverage.
• Edit video content, including voiceovers, soundbites, reporter packages, and special reports, using non-linear editing platforms.
• Support live on-air control room operations and ensure all signals meet strict quality control standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues swiftly, maintaining detailed logs of incidents and resolutions.
• Assign IFB and transmission sources for live reports and special coverage.
• Proactively align edited content with show rundowns and producer scripts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a news environment as an editor, broadcast engineer, or technical operator.
• Proficiency in non-linear editing platforms such as Dalet and Adobe Premiere.
• Working knowledge of live transmission systems, including Dejero, LiveU, microwave, satellite, and broadband technologies.
• Familiarity with equipment from Evertz, Harris, Sencore, Riedel, and other industry-standard manufacturers.
• Experience with microwave receive consoles (e.g., Troll, NuComm, RF Central).
• Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to evolving technical environments.
• Availability for flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, early mornings, overnights, and holidays.
Basic Education
• High school diploma or equivalent
