This is a full-time staff position. The position is covered under the WGA-ABC National Agreement.
Responsibilities:
WABC is seeking an Assignment Editor who is comfortable working under the pressures of a breaking news situation!
• This individual is a critical member of our newsroom whose responsibilities involve assigning crews, reporters, gathering information about developing news stories, and actively identifying and generating original high-impact stories that reflect the diversity of our audience.
• Handle all inquiries and requests from a variety of individuals and organizations.
• Work closely with news managers, producers, and other assignment editors to coordinate coverage of breaking and daily stories.
• Identifying social media content for news stories and getting permission for use
• Interact with viewers daily on the phone and on social media.
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of TV newsroom experience.
• Strong teammate who interacts in a positive, ethical, and compassionate way with other employees and the public.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A high degree of ethics, empathy, professionalism, and the ability to function well under pressure in fast-paced situations
• Flexible to work various shifts as needed, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Requirements:
• Knowledge of police scanners and online newsgathering
Required Education
• High school diploma or equivalent experience

• College Degree
The hiring range for this WGA role in New York is $139,913 to $145,000 per year. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
