ABC7 Los Angeles is seeking a Part-Time Assignment Editor to join Southern California's News Leader. The right candidate for our 24/7 team should be a go-getter who wants to own local breaking news coverage and generate meaningful and exclusive content across our various platforms. We are looking for someone who is passionate about local news, whether it's breaking news, severe weather coverage, or converting viewer tips into impactful community stories.
This role is considered on-site, which means the employee will work from a Company designated location on an ongoing basis.
Responsibilities:
• This individual is a critical member of our newsroom whose responsibilities involve assigning crews and reporters, planning coverage, mining social media and monitoring scanners.
• Gathering and vetting information about developing stories. Effectively organizes updates and planning items into various newsroom systems.
• Responding to newsroom requests and keeping the news team apprised of breaking news and changes in assignments. This also includes working with our colleagues from ABC News, affiliates and other partners. Exceptional external and internal customer service is a must.
• Proactively generating, researching and setting up high-impact stories that reflect the diversity of our audience.
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of middle to large market experience with related Assignment Editor.
• Organized team player who is proactive and collaborates well with all station departments, as well as reporters, photographers, digital news teams, newscast producers and newsroom managers.
• Must be social media savvy and excel in social newsgathering.
• Must be able to operate in a professional, ethical, and empathetic manner in high pressure situations and be able to deal calmly and effectively with viewers on the phone.
• Candidates are expected to be flexible, work weekends, evenings, early morning shifts and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
• Local news assignment desk or related experience required.
• Bilingual
• Knowledge of Southern California is a plus.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $62,200 to $83,300 per year based on a 29 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
