Job Description:
Internship Program Objectives
A. Smith & Co generates some of the most innovative, highly rated, and high quality programming for the domestic and international television marketplace including Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, American Ninja Warrior, The Titan Games, Wizard Wars, Death by Magic, Ellen's Design Challenge, Unsung and more.
To cater to the demands of a constantly evolving entertainment industry requires advanced levels of skill and responsibility, as such we maintain high expectations of our interns.
Our internship program operates with two critical objectives. The first objective is to seek out and train motivated and capable potential employees that would serve as positive additions to the A. Smith & Co. team. The second objective is to provide our interns with a glimpse at work in a professional environment while imbuing tasks with educational value.
Internship Paths:
We have 3 possible career paths for our potential interns, each representing a different and crucial department in our company.
Development
Interns will be exposed to all aspects of non-scripted development, assisting with research, casting, drafting treatments, preparing pitch materials, participating in weekly Internal Development Team meetings, and attending pitch meetings from outside producers. Interns are encouraged to pitch ideas of their own, work on special projects when assigned and also support the casting department in research, outreach, fliers, sizzles, and scheduling interviews when needed.
Production
Interns that are selected to work with the Production department will learn how to identify, handle, and use professional equipment, as well as, learn what it takes to plan elaborate film shoots.
Potential additional responsibilities include research, preparing photographs for editorial, production reports, script reading, and script coverage, organizing releases, and transcribing interviews. Interns will often work in tandem with a producing team that specializes on a particular show.
Post-Production
Post interns are paired with one of our assistant editors; through this process they are given the opportunity to become familiar with the Avid editorial platform as well as begin to understand the complicated workflow of working at a post-production facility as a team. Daily tasks include assisting with logging, creating timing sheets, graphics logs, music cue sheets, making dubs, re- encoding video files, as well as tape library management.
