Job Description
THE ROLE:
The Senior Director, Legal & Business Affairs, Content Group-NY, is responsible for leading the negotiation and drafting of agreements for unscripted programming talent across A+E Networks and the Factual Studio, including on-air ''A list'' talent, executive producers, showrunners, and consultants. This role exists to provide legal guidance in support of A+E Global Media's unscripted content initiatives, ensuring that talent deals are structured to align with the company's strategic and operational goals. In addition, the Senior Director will collaborate with programming executives as well as other members of the Legal & Business Affairs group in negotiating and drafting development and production agreements for unscripted programming. The position plays a key role in supporting A+E's content creation efforts through effective deal-making and risk management.
MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Negotiate and draft talent agreements.
• Negotiate and draft development and production agreements.
• Collaborate with and advise internal clients on deal strategy, contract terms, rights, and risk management.
• Manage deal flow and process and answer questions from programming execs and colleagues.
• Contribute to refining templates, workflows, and best practices within the Legal & Business Affairs –NY Content Group.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• J.D. from an accredited law school and State Bar admission or in-house counsel eligibility.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience, including significant experience negotiating and drafting agreements for unscripted television programming.
• Experience handling deals for on-air talent, executive producers, showrunners, and consultants.
• Expertise in handling business and legal issues related to television development and production.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and sound judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across L&BA, creative, production, and business teams.
• Demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior in-house experience at a television network, studio, or major production company strongly preferred.
