THE ROLE: Director, Standards & Practices A E Networks is looking for a Director of Standards & Practices to work as part of team reviewing content and making recommendations on matters of sensitivities and taste, working with creative teams, implementing policies and guidelines, determining TV ratings, and educating departments on S&P concerns. MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO: Review original unscripted programming for A&E and History at all stages of production and collaborate with Programming Executives, Production Companies, Legal Risk, and others on S&P issues raised. Further, issue detailed S&P notes in connection with A E Network's guidelines and community acceptability. Types of review include: Scripts, rough cuts, fine cuts, scene lifts, episode cutdowns, compilations, episode descriptions, promo materials, and other relevant content and material. Negotiate content changes with clients, both internal and external, over S&P issues in content. Assign Television Parental Guideline rating to ensure consistency across the industry. Review international programming to assign a domestic rating in preparation for Global Content Sales. Review acquired movies for S&P edits and work with Theatrical Studio contact or internal editor on changes and assign rating. Conduct constant re-evaluation of dated library programming to ensure it meets current standards. Conduct on-going educational sessions for internal departments to understand S&P issues. Interact with production, creative, sales, legal, public relations, corporate executives, listings, third party production company staff, administrative and creative staff, and scheduling staff on any S&P issues. Assist in reviewing and flagging Ad Sales concerns on short-form and long form content when necessary. Research potential problematic or questionable content/imagery to understand how its inclusion in programming could negatively impact the network's brand. Make suggestions for edits with the Programming team. Analyze and discuss any S&P issues or current event/social trends with S&P team and Commercial Clearance that may impact programming. Live Programming – part of the Live Programming team who must make split second S&P decisions in the control room. Conduct research on a variety of subjects that will keep the S&P team up to date on current sensitivities in the culture. Collaborate with the Legal Risk and Media Operations teams to supply content disclaimers to programs as necessary YOUR STORY Experience: Minimum of 10 years related experience reviewing content for standards and practices for either programming and/or advertising. Proven ability to make independent decisions on content. Proven ability to make split second decisions on content. Requirements/Skills: Strong analytical, negotiating and communication skills required. Experience demonstrating a keen attention to details, excellent organizational skills, and a good sense of judgment. Maturity and professionalism ''a must'' Ability to interact with senior level executives and outside counsel over the phone and email. Experience in giving presentations. Strong time management and multi-tasking skills needed and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must be a team player. Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred.
