Full Time Job
The Production Accountant will be responsible in working with Producers and Head of Production to report on actual costs and forecast margin projections, reporting variance analysis and trends, providing inputs to true up project costs-to-date, and manage the forecast until the project completion. The Production Accountant is also responsible for month-end close, reconciliation of projected costs against month-end actuals, financial analysis and reporting. The candidate shall be organized, professional, flexible, responsive, and a team-oriented member who is hands-on, a good problem solver, and exhibits a proactive and transparent style.
Possessing a sense of urgency, the Production Accountant demonstrates an ability to work within a fast-paced and collaborative environment, deliver accurate and high-quality work on schedule, and has excellent skills in building relationships and communicating effectively. Most importantly, this role is very responsive to a variety of internal and external client needs. This role works with an intense propensity to get things done in a very organized manner with strong attention to details.
Reporting to:
• Direct reporting to Finance Manager
• Indirect reporting to Producers and Head of Production
Duties &Responsibilities
• Assist Producers and Head of Production to prepare project budgets during film pre-production
• Cost projects to actuals, analyze costs and expenditure, and provide weekly cost reports highlighting variances from plan during film production
• Prepare projected income forecasts as the cost of labour and infrastructure fluctuate and report changes to management for decision making including initiation of change orders, mitigate cost overruns, and re-allocation of resources
• Generate consolidated projected income forecast including current and bid projects
• Initiate post mortem reviews on completed projects to highlight successes and weaknesses for improvements
• Generate reports of actual and recent historical project performance that will assist the Bidding Producer in preparing quotes
• Bill clients in accordance with agreed payment schedules or as triggered by change orders or advice from Producers
• Journalize revenue and expense entries for month-end
• Prepare month-end and year-end workings papers to reconcile GL accounts
• Update quarterly or as needed on qualifying labour used in tax credit applications
• Reconcile vendor accounts as requested from Corporate Accounts Payable department
• Assist with ad-hoc analysis
Qualifications
• Graduate degree and Minimum 3 years previous experience in an accounting role
• Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA), MBA considered a strong asset
• Experience in tech or entertainment industry a plus
• Strong analytical and organization skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong systems skills, especially MS Office Suite/Excel; experience with database systems or SAP a plus
• Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others with a strong ability to communicate to various internal and external customers
• Able to plan, prioritize, and manage competing business unit priorities as well as meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
• Flexible to work extra or longer hours when needed
• Solid understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
