Crypt TV is a startup digital video company focused on original genre content. Through work with partners like Eli Roth, Blumhouse Productions and NBCUniversal, and collaborations with major studios, networks, production companies and digital media companies, Crypt TV's brand, catalog and distribution reach continues to grow at a rapid pace.
We need a full-time junior attorney who will be responsible for handling day-to-day production legal for Crypt TV's original content, and assisting with licensing, acquisition, contract, intellectual property, corporate and related matters as needed. The Associate Counsel will report to the Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs.
This position is ideal for a self-motivated junior attorney looking to gain valuable hands-on experience with production legal, drafting and negotiation, and general knowledge and skills in the areas of digital media, film and television.
Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day production legal functions, including preparation and management of production contracts and clearances utilizing Crypt TV forms
- Managing Crypt TV's contract and rights management system
- Assisting in the negotiation of production contracts and clearances
- Drafting term sheets, deal memos and agreements as needed, including licensing and acquisition agreements
- Legal research on various matters, including international law relevant to content production, and general contract and intellectual property law
- Advising production teams on production matters, including applicable laws and regulations, insurance, permitting, guild and union compliance, etc.
- More generally, working quickly and efficiently to assist where needed as part of a small, fast-paced team working on a high volume of projects
Qualifications
- JD Degree
- Must be member in good standing of California Bar
- 1-2 years of experience in transactional entertainment law (including internships, in-house and/or law firms)
- Basic understanding of film/television/digital media contracts and copyright/trademark law
- Ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously, and have the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight time frames in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and sense of urgency are key given the volume and pace of work
- Basic understanding of content production (preferred but not required)
