Photojournalist, Field Production

This is a Full Time Job

Duties: Fluency in both English and Spanish language is required for this position.CNN Photojournalists are responsible for recording images to illustrate CNN news events and stories. Photojournalists record events and stories to the highest ethical, aesthetic, editorial and technical standards using the latest technology. They are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. A Photojournalist documents a wide array of news events, and their required level of training and experience allows them to meet CNN standards in their responsibilities and skills. This position requires technical development and experience that will facilitate editorial knowledge, which allows them to handle photography, audio, logistics, and lighting and transmission. They will also be capable of exhibiting strong editorial skills. They are experienced NLE editors capable of independent editorial decision-making.

Newsgathering: Demonstrates advanced lighting and photography set-ups w/a variety of camera types. Ensures that all pictures and sound are of highest quality and properly recorded. Able to gather quality pictures and sound as a one-person crew, and using technology to edit and transmit material. Learning evolving technologies and concepts and adapting them to field assignments. Logistics: Gathering proper gear, setting up logistics, traveling and shipping equipment, and getting to the assignment with the proper equipment. Editing/Producing: Demonstrates competent editing both in the field or production center. Using editorial, technical and production skills to produce content for air in English or Spanish language as necessary. Conceptualizing with reporters and producers to understand story concepts, and provide important feedback to improve on those concepts. Ability to write wire copy and file for CNN s digital outlets. Paperwork: Responsible for accounting of all expenses on corporate credit cards and submitting them in a timely manner per company guidelines; substantiating these expenses is an important part of their jobs. Account for working hours via internal tracking and allocation applications. Keeps all relevant credentials current. Gear maintenance: Maintaining all gear including crew vehicles, working with appropriate departments to keep all gear up to date and in working order. Able to trouble-shoot quickly and effectively.

Scheduling: Photojournalists are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except on vacation).

Travel: Photojournalists are expected to travel (hostile environments are optional).

Qualifications: Minimum experience requirements include: five (5) Years ENG and field production experience, travel is required, strong NLE editing skills and fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Desirable requirements (not mandatory) include: knowledge of alternative data transmission systems, knowledge of CNN programming, production, process and newsgathering, experience working in war zones and austere environs and on-air reporting experience.

Educational requirements include: Bachelor Degree in communication, journalism, TV production, or related field. In lieu of a degree, we would consider experience and on the job accomplishment.
