Title: Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs
Location: New York, NY
Overview:
30WEST is seeking a Counsel or Senior Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs, commensurate with experience. This position will support all facets of the business affairs and legal department of the Company and reports to the General Counsel & Head of Business Affairs of 30WEST.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Support the business affairs and legal function of the company in coordination with the company's executives and outside counsel.
• Serve as legal counsel, together with outside counsel, on Company's productions by negotiating, drafting and reviewing production services agreements and above-the-line talent (writers, producers, directors and performers) agreements and oversee rights and clearances issues and legal delivery.
• Structure, negotiate and draft rights deals and/or project development agreements, including book option/purchase agreements, attachment agreements and/or joint venture agreements.
• Manage day-to-day business and legal affairs issues for development, production, financing, sales, tax incentive and distribution deals.
• Track and monitor deal progress and agreement status; maintain deal and agreement files for all Company projects.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• JD degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of 3 years of prior law firm and equivalent in-house experience; in-house entertainment business affairs or entertainment law firm preferred but not required.
• Sound, practical business judgment and calmness under pressure; adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, priorities and conflicting deadlines.
• Experience handling (and drafting relevant agreements for) a wide range of business and legal issues in connection with development, production, finance, and acquisition/distribution matters.
• Strong analytical skills, ability to run and analyze various deal scenarios, tax incentive agreements and business models a plus.
• Must be admitted to practice law in New York and be in good standing.
The salary range for this full-time position is between $85,000 to $200,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including business needs, job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, competitive healthcare as well as other employee benefits.
