Project Manager, Communications Systems/Sound Design

PLEASE NOTE:
This is a project non-staff position with an estimated duration of 4 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.
Role purpose:
The Project Manager for Communication Systems/Sound Design, primary responsibility, is to insure that the audio component of a production is of a high and intelligible quality, and is in compliance with published standards & practices. This position will also be responsible for researching new hardware, software and IT-based audio broadcast and communications equipment. This would include working with manufactures to develop new equipment and systems, or modifying existing products to fulfill NBC Sports Production requirements. The Project Manager will work with manufactures, sports production personnel, outside resource vendors, Olympic Host Broadcaster, and NBC personnel, to help them understand and deliver our requirements, while meeting his or her project goals. This is a Games-time position for the 2012 Olympic Games, and may expand to a longer term role.
Responsibilities:
• Design and development of the overall audio and production communications engineering plan for the IBC and all NBC Olympic venues, including design specifications, performance criteria and functional/operational specifications.
• NBC Olympics IBC audio control rooms, announce booths, editing room audio facilities, and communication systems
• NBC Olympics Venue audio mixing facilities, venue natural sound effects, compound distribution, internal venue communications, communication systems to NBC's IBC facility, venue editing audio facilities and the interface to the host broadcaster for audio splits and sub-mixes.
• IBC and Venue Transmission and recording audio tracking assignments
• Working with System integrators, to design and document audio and communication plans, to assure compliance with project goals
• Provides direct supervision of project implementation, for IBC, Venue and other assigned areas, which includes, the installation, commissioning and testing of audio systems and equipment.
• Developing and verifying proof of performance and operational training procedures for any new audio equipment and systems.
• Developing and monitoring project budgets for assigned areas and generates a project schedule for areas of responsibility.
• Coordinating design and installation schedules with other Olympic technical departments.
• Assisting Operations and Production groups, in identifying and training, qualified audio production personnel for Olympics and Sports Productions.
• Preparing written descriptions, procedures and drawings, of IBC and Venue audio system, for distribution to Production, Technical and Operational staffs.
• Regular status reports on project status and goals.
Basic qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• At least ten (10) years experience with remote sports broadcasting.
• Experience with, and extensive knowledge of current audio systems, with coincident work on future audio technologies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and management skills required.
• Should have extensive experience in remote television broadcasting, large scale audio system design, implementation and project management.
• Position will require the management of contract employees during the systems installation/checkout phase and also the maintenance of the system during the games.
• Position will involve systems training for both operations and engineering personnel.
• Extensive domestic and international travel required and must be willing to live in the host city 3-4 months prior to each Olympic Games period.
