Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Data Architect for our Woodland Hills, CA office location:
The Data Architect will be responsible for the design and implementation of the enterprise data architecture. Designing the data architecture will involve comparing and selecting technical standards and establishing data objects and interfaces. In this role the data architect will be working closely with enterprise and solution architects to ensure proper definition, use, distribution and storage of information.
This position will also work directly with project teams and business representatives to fully understand data requirements, and act as an expert advisor to projects and enterprise governance bodies.
The candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of data management best practices and the ability to be a leader in their design and implementation as the company establishes a core enterprise architecture function.
The Data Architect must be able to demonstrate the ability to produce conceptual, logical, and physical data models. They must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to document and present data models, strategies, standards, and concepts to both business and IT audiences.
Core responsibilities will include:
* Defining and shaping the information vision - working with senior leaders to understand business data needs, and integrating those into information architecture
* Defining standards, processes and governance in support of information vision, including technical standards, policies and architectures
* Creating an information implementation plan - assessing current systems and processes around information and indentifying where gaps exist and how to align data definition company-wide to reduce variation
* Building a Global data dictionary containing common business definition for each field and clarifying technical versus business terminology - this glossary needs to be understandable everywhere, and widely shared to limit misunderstandings
* Linked to the above, working with business owners to manage migration of non-compliant / redundant information systems in most cost-effective way
* Selecting and managing outside vendors in support of rolling out the information implementation plan, including benchmarking, RFPs and account management
* Working with application and infrastructure project teams to develop supporting architecture, including advising on data interfaces, warehousing and enterprise service bus applications
* Supporting project level modeling of data requirements, including helping teams understand business value of data
* Advising on security within the information systems and supporting response teams in the event of a breach
Job Requirements:
Experience:
* Master's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or closely related field or comparable education and experience typically obtained by five or more years related work experience
* 5+ years with Data/Information architecture and creating enterprise data architectures for large enterprise databases
* Experience in building/managing a data warehouse at a large-data company (e.g. web 2.0), preferably working in multiple geographies
* Hands-on experience in data modeling, including both relational and dimensional modeling, storing metadata/data dictionaries within a formal modeling tool and enterprise data integration technologies with large scale enterprise databases
* Hands-on experience in leading the design, development and maintenance of databases and database interfaces
* Experience with industry standard BI tools
