Booking Assistant / Junior Sound Engineer -- Internship
Spike Hill
Brooklyn, NYThis is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Spike Hill is an indie music venue located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In 2009, the venue was picked by Time Out New York as one of the ''Best Free Venues'' in New York City and the ''Best Brooklyn Venue of The Year'' by Lucidculture. We host an array of burdening and well-established acts, which include: Nora Jones, Matt Friedberger of Fiery Furnaces, Wakey! Wakey!, La Strada, Jukebox The Ghost, Anamanaguchi, Sharon Van Etten, Future of The Left, & The Billy Nayer Show, to name a few. We also arrange events for a number of trend-setting New York media, festival promoters and record labels, including: L Magazine, CMJ, Northside Festival, NY Press, Ear Farm, Make Music New York, JDub Records and many others.
Our business consists of a tight-knit group of like-minded and eclectic music fanatics, and we’re looking for someone with a great attitude, work ethic, and a similar appetite for music to aid our booking staff. Responsibilities would include not just keeping up, but staying ahead of new bands, styles, and music trends in and outside of the city, helping our booking agents in scheduling weekly buzz-worthy shows, wading through new music submissions on a daily basis, contacting record labels and potential clients, general database upkeep, and brainstorming new ideas for the venue. There are also opportunities for live audio/sound engineering if the applicant is interested.
Our core staff is made up of six individuals so an intern will not be lost in the shuffle but will gain first hand knowledge of the music industry and what it’s like to work with a focused and driven group in a professional setting. This is not an internship involving fetching coffee and refilling ink cartridges in the office printer – the right student will play a real part in the development of a flourishing Brooklyn music venue.
Applicants should poses a burning love of music -- in depth knowledge of local music scene a huge plus -- a strong work ethic and ever-ready self motivation a must.
