Full Sail University is seeking an exceptional candidate to join our talented and growing MPBS degree team. In this role, you will help shape our students' understanding and practice of contemporary popular music composition, to be utilized in support of a successful music production career. Students of Music Composition will explore form, melodic construction, counterpoint, and harmonic devices in a variety of contemporary genres. Composition projects will include music for film, TV, games, songwriting, multimedia, and instrumental/vocal music. The focus of the course lies in developing the students’ understanding of the construction of contemporary popular music, and the ability to communicate effectively with musicians, composers, directors, programmers, and producers in the professional music production environment. The successful candidate must have a collaborative leadership style to work effectively with the school administration, teachers, students, parents, and the school’s leadership team.
Responsibilities:
• Plan, design, develop, and implement course curriculum as defined by the Program Director
• Work with the Program Director to ensure curriculum content reflects the current trends of the industry to ensure student success.
• Facilitate course assets, promote understanding of live online delivery methods and usage of new technology tools within the course instruction team
• Mentor the Associate Course Director and Lab faculty members by observation and leadership in the professional presentation of course curriculum
• Maintain curriculum files and documents and ensure proper course curriculum within accreditation standards
• Work with educators to assist in successful labor distribution and cross training within the course and program
• Work with the Program Director to investigate and recommend leading-edge industry concepts, new equipment, software, and learning materials for future course development
• Participate in departmental meetings
• Assist Admissions Department with inquiries concerning course content
• Be available for one Sunday out of every month for Open House
• Maintain a professional demeanor within the public eye, including: student relations, public/student internet posts, community relations, public stage performances, and industry events
• Represent and exemplify the objectives, methods, and philosophies of Full Sail University
• Lecture to students and assist students with queries and requests for additional information, both online and/or on campus, as required
• Evaluate and grade student progress through the course material and utilize planned assessment strategies
• Maintain timely student grade and attendance records, including timely submission to the Education Department
• Support and cultivate student success through daily interaction and open communication, including personal availability, for daily student meetings and extra help sessions
• Ensure high student retention by taking measures to identify and assist students in need
Requirements:
• Professional composition experience (any genre is acceptable)
• Working knowledge of music notation and recording software
• Extensive knowledge of pedagogical techniques employed for teaching music composition (especially utilizing electronic tools) is preferred
• A minimum of two years' experience teaching music composition (at the college level) is preferred
• Music Composition is delivered online; knowledge of methods for online delivery of curriculum is a plus
Education/Training: The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree (preferred) or Bachelors Degree (minimum requirement) in Music Composition. The candidate should have a passion for education and firsthand experience working with music composition and songwriting technologies, as well as knowledge of online teaching concepts.
