Babelgum is an independent and privately held company with offices in London, Milan, Los Angeles and New York. An integrated mobile and Web content platform, Babelgum combines the full-screen video quality of traditional television with the interactive capabilities of the Internet and offers innovative professionally produced programming on-demand to a global audience. Babelgum recently launched an original mobile application in the United States, UK and Italy. The company has set up two online contests to nurture independent film and music talent: the Babelgum Online Film Festival, chaired by Spike Lee (now in its second year) and the Babelgum Music Video Awards, judged by acclaimed director Michel Gondry. Babelgum Comedy has three show nominated for 2010 Streamy. Babelgum also launched a Digital Studio initiative producing new, exclusive and original content with distribution through web, mobile & IPTV with TV and Film deals.
Babelgum offers a variety of content across four core channels: Film, Music, Comedy, and Metropolis (urban culture and trends).
Job Summary
The (Channel) Editor, together with the Channel Publisher, is responsible for programming the homepage of the channel and providing content selections for Babelgum’s homepage and geographic targeted mobile channels.
Job Scope
The position reports to the GM & Publisher of the respective Channel. The Editor will work very closely with the Publisher, the content acquisition team, the marketing team, including their Channel Marketing Executives and the CAPS team.
*Seeking a comedy nerd who eats, sleeps and breaths comedy, is immersed in the community and has a deep knowledge of both traditional and digital players.
Responsibilities
· Program the homepage of the Channel: Select the 10/40 clips that are featured in the shuffle and create editorial blocks. Refresh daily. Program and curate weekly/monthly themes from library and new incoming content.
· Collaborate with the Mobile Editors to program the mobile channels: Select the clips to be featured every week on our mobile products in US, UK, Italy etc.
· Work with Publisher and Acquisition team to schedule master program matrix 6-8 weeks in advance and input same into channel CMS.
· Write all channel editorial copy; including homepage editorial blocks, and assist with copy for Channel marketing purposes.
· Program any special competition channels and grouped content offerings.
· Select the viral clips to be promoted through social media.
· In collaboration with the Design Team and the Channel Marketing Executive, create the Superpages and associated promo material for key editorial series.
· In collaboration with the Newsletter Editor, create a compelling content for a Channel newsletter.
· Ensure videos are titled and described in a consistent but also effective way to encourage views. Ensure thumbnails are enticing.
· Work with Ingestion Team in Dublin & London to ensure content is published in a timely and accurate way.
· Interact with third party content providers and view self-loaded content sent in by ad hoc content creators/owners.
· In collaboration with the Channel Marketing Executive, provide content/updates for the Channel Facebook, Twitter and other RSS feeds.
· Assist the Publisher in identifying suitable pro and non pro content for the Channel.
· Collaborate with Content Acquisition team with regard to the timing of staggered content acquisition programming and work with Branded Channel Manager to ensure proper programming of the Branded Channels acquired for the respective channels.
· Generate ideas around ongoing content strategy.
· Liaise with Legal as required over content with diverse issues in CMS.
· Other duties which may arise in the position, as requested by the Channel Publisher.
Design and maintain two flash based websites.
Ongoing relationship with Content Providers receiving their deliverables
Supporting Marketing efforts
Additional Marketing Outreach through Facebook , twitter, digg etc.
Essential Qualifications/Experience Required
· Bachelor Degree, such as Arts
· Knowledgeable and passionate about the Channel offering.
· Web savvy and technology literate in front end tools and Microsoft products.
· Background in Content (creation or acquisition) and digital activities in particular in the editorial area.
· Past experience in online programming
· Fluency in English (verbal and written) is essential; Other European languages while not essential would be beneficial.
Must have own high speed up to date computer with Microsoft suite
