Statistics Associate I

Statistics Associates will work in the Stats & Analysis Team’s production of live scoring and statistics across ESPN platforms. Responsibilities will include monitoring feeds from professional and college events, creating play-by-play, entering score updates and box scores, finding and correcting errors, maintaining rosters and schedules, communicating with teams and leagues, updating clock and score, performing next-level analysis, and working with data warehouses.
Essential Functions
• Contribute ideas regularly and participate in projects and task forces when necessary.
• Work toward the daily goal of 100 percent accuracy
• Night, weekend and holiday work will be required.
• Responsible for monitoring the use of the data they create by other ESPN entities to ensure their accuracy. Must show urgency in escalating abnormalities to the management team.
• Track and enter data for responsibilities listed above, including monitoring feeds from professional and college events, creating play-by-play, entering score updates and box scores, finding and correcting errors, maintaining rosters and schedules, communicating with teams and leagues, updating clock and score, performing next-level analysis, and working with data warehouses.
Desired Qualifications • Previous work or internship experience in Internet, television or print sports/news production or experience with real-time statistical and score-keeping applications
• Very deep and very broad sports knowledge
• Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
• Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
• Strong communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of statistics’ role in ESPN products and should be able to regularly propose new ways statistics can be exploited in ESPN storytelling or as premium products on TV, ESPN.com, Mobile Publishing or elsewhere.
• College degree preferred
