This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
The Market Council (NY, NY) - The Market Council is a collaboration of communication specialists and designers. We embrace a 360-degree marketing strategy, which is consumer-centric. We are lifestyle-marketing pros that are interested in all things that make you look and feel good. We specialize in the travel, health, fashion, beauty and wellness industries.
We also are in the midst of launching a new business in hospitality and food.
This is an unpaid internship for two separate businesses managed by the same people. We are building a team, so there are 5 positions available. This is virtual (work at home) internship with meetings 2x weekly. Part time or full time - but the minimum is 8 hours a week.
We are looking for anyone and everyone (college student / graduate) who wants to be completely immersed in:
• marketing and PR: those who eat and sleep to tweet, have a never ending blog roll and capable of making appearances offline as well as online
• design: an infographic - lover who isn't shy, has a Facebook and loves digital but appreciates print
• business/startup: a foodie that dreams of owning their own restaurant or food truck
We would like meet as a group, twice weekly, on Monday's (to assign the project) and Friday's (to report) at our offices (34th street and 5th Ave). We are offering a 'work at home' internship because it is unpaid (and this is NY). We know that a majority of people are working or in school, so we are flexible and understanding. However, we need to be assured that you are comfortable with, and capable of, working with us virtually. And you must be willing to commit to at least 8 hours a week— but depending on the project assigned to you, it may be more or less.
For-credit internship for undergrads - we'll try to work with your college's requirements. You'll get plenty of real-time experience.
Start date: ASAP (we need help February 9th-16th during fashion week, especially)
Length: three to six months
examples of projects:
• create a list of (creative and engaging) tweets and categorize them by date, time, and target audience (we will provide you with the brand's voice and personality and list of people we want to connect with on Twitter)
• audit and measure a brands social media presence (we will provide you with a social media score card). questions we will ask: is there content too brand-centric? if they have a Facebook, has it been updated recently? are people posting, commenting and sharing or just liking? how many likes were there this week?
• explore a brand's target audience, list the influencers in their industry and all types of consumers and then figure out where they are and what they do -- online and offline
• research and compile a list of new e-zines, blogs and vlogs by industry, listing their beat and contact information and rate them A, B or C (are they professional? informative? are they curators or do they produce original content? are they on trend or setting trends?)
• collect infographics about marketing, PR and design and upload them the market council's Pinterest account
• research the best tools available online for brands - collaborative workspaces to help organize and make communication more efficient, measurement tools to track traffic of campaigns, mobile apps that help with productivity, and more.
• transfer and update a list of 100 contacts from word to excel (this is a tedious project that will be delegated to a few people)
• compile industry news from leaders: Mashable, Chris Brogan, CopyBlogger (working off the top 5 on AdAge's Power 150 list) and send us a brief industry overview by email in the mornings
• research new york's favorite lunch time food and beverage brands, food purveyors, restaurants, menu items, chefs, nutritionists
• research local entertainers and educators for future events and guest lectures: comedians, professors (in any field - teaching intro courses), authors, musicians, artists, etc.
• graphic designers will create infographics from the research compiled as well as assist in the design strategy and process
• also, you will help the market council practice what they preach by assisting us with our own social media - managing and measuring it
