POSITION SUMMARY
The IT Jr. System Administrator will report to the Director of IT. The Jr. System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners.
This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the initiation, planning and implementation phases. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.
This individual is accountable for the following types of infrastructure systems: Mac OSX, and Windows Systems; Networking, Security and Storage Infrastructures. Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation. This individual is responsible to assist the IT Director in maintaining a large, complex multi-site infrastructure of more than 200 computers running more than one operating system and with a user base of greater than 150 users.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Junior Systems Administrator both assists others on the Server team and may also serve as a point of contact for supporting IT Infrastructure.
Under guidance and direction of more senior team members, they provide operational support for the Microsoft server infrastructure
Working closely and collaboratively with other support engineers to ensure that various server management tools and alarm activities are current; in order to ensure that pro-active actions can be taken to minimize server downtime
They will work and coordinate with technical support personnel, both internal and external (vendors), to provide fast resolutions for users on desktop/server related issues
Resolves problems in a prompt, professional manner and escalates when necessary for problem resolution
Records and manages incidents in appropriate problem management tools, being sure to follow up and ensure that resolutions are implemented
Participate in after-hours and weekend on call support rotation for end user computers, network, and servers
Strong working knowledge of Windows 2008/2012 server and Active Directory design and implementation
Asist in analyze and Install, configure, troubleshoot and administer Windows 2008/2012/2019 servers
Collaborates with other support staff to ensure high availability of Microsoft Network, including but not limited to, email, file servers, SQL servers, Backup and SAN
Evaluate and install new software releases, system upgrades, patches, and resolve software-related problems
Manage Active Directory, DNS,DHCP, Event Logs, and security-related tools
Perform system backups and recovery
Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity
Build, install, configure, troubleshoot, and administer servers/SAN/NAS
Participate in testing and recommending various hardware and software technologies that will improve performance and reliability
Review and test backup strategies and recommend enhancements to improve reliability and reduce downtime
Create and maintain excellent environment documentation and keep detailed server maintenance logs
Test and implement strategies and procedures for keeping desktops, laptops, and servers current with the latest security patches and anti-virus updates
Conduct hardware and software tests to ensure compliance with current standards
All other duties as assigned
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to computer terminals, maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures as expected of a Jr. System Administrator.
Provide desktop, phone and remote support to all staff members, assist in Helpdesk related tasks.
Maintain Helpdesk tickets and assignment of tickets.
Monitor Nagios alerts and escalate where necessary.
Communicate with vendors were necessary for support.
Assist in any other directives given by the Director of IT.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or 2+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in moves, adds, or changes in Windows or UNIX domains and/or phone systems.
Experience in technical phone support and/or troubleshooting.
2+ years in VMWare Microsoft servers and networks.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Excellent verbal and communications skills
Experience in providing quality customer care
Experience in Windows 2008 or above, Active Directory, DNS & DHCP
Experience in network including knowledge of troubleshooting HP Aruba switches.
Computer Skills
Knowledge of Windows, Mac OSX and UNIX Operating Systems.
Knowledge of Postproduction software such as Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
Certificates and Licenses
CompTIA A+ , Network+, Security+ certification preferred.
CCNA or MCSE 2008 or above certification preferred.
