Job Title: News Desk Manager
Multi-Station group seeks individual to manager daily assignments of all Reporters and Photographers.
Market: Baton Rouge
Status: Exempt
Reports to: News Director
Direct Reports: All reporters & photographers for daily assignments (WVLA, WGMB)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Manage the daily assignments of all reporters and photographers as decided by the Executive Producer for WVLA NBC 33, WGMB Fox 44. Responsible for the day to day management of crews in the field as well as making necessary news gathering phone calls, updating the Assignment Sheet, Listening to Police scanners for breaking news, making beat calls and any other duties assigned by the News Director.
Ideal candidate have a grasp of editing on Final Cut Pro, and extensive writing experience. Should also be experienced in writing News Topicals and Promotions. This is not an entry level position. Candidate should have no less than three years experience in a television newsroom.
Assist the Executive Producer in assigning daily stories and planning the effective execution of those stories.
Create and maintain relevant news sources. Help reporters develop relevant news stories.
Assist news promotion manager in getting the right information and video for topical teases.
Effectively communicate with Executive Producer, reporters, and photographers on all aspects of news gathering, story execution and focus.
Organize the Assignment Desk to run efficiently with an emphasis on planning for future events and on-going stories.
NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Other duties as assigned by the News Director, Executive Producer and General Manager.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
Bachelor degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
Three years experience in broadcast news environment required.
Strong knowledge of a working newsroom and all newsroom equipment.
Strong organizational and motivational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional multi-tasking skills.
Computer literate.
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in American English.
