Full Time Job
Overview: Manages all team media and public relations issues which may occasionally change to adhere to NBA G League rules. Direct/manage all duties pertaining to the Wisconsin Herd community relations projects with the team and community of Oshkosh. The Director of PR & CR will report directly to the President and will interface with all other departments of the company as needed to achieve goals including interfacing with the Milwaukee Bucks PR and CSR departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Serve as key team liaison to NBA G League media relations and local media while providing key talking points to key team spokesperson.
• Maintain and build strong relationships with various media personnel regionally and nationally
• Direct all planning, project management and day to day operations of public relations department while supervising and delegating to the public relations team
• Supervise public relations at all major team events
• Serve as Chief Editor of all official team publications (press releases, statistical review, draft guide, game notes, media guide, program, newsletter and end of season clipping book)
• Oversee archiving all box scores, game notes, team releases and media guides
• Direct research projects of historical and statistical nature
• Continuously improve methods of communicating
• Develop & create fresh news
• Assist with Television and Radio Broadcasts as needed
• Adhere to league's public relations handbook
• Write all team-related press releases
• Coordinates all media requests for team (statistical, historical, and interviews)
• Pitch story ideas to media; television, print, and radio
• Handle photo and video requests for publications
• Maintain and update media mailing list
• Answer phone calls from G League & NBA clubs, local, regional, and national media
• Coordinate media efforts at special events
• Send weekly overview of media availability for practices and events to media
• Research, compile statistics, and promote Player of the Week and Coach of the Month Awards when applicable to NBA G League
• Clip and organize all team print coverage
• Organize yearly team files (stats, guides, photography)
• Develop outer market earned media
• Update and develop statistical reports
• Research and write NBA development to NBA player call-up releases
• Manage, plan and execute special events to include working with other departments to ensure team has all needed staff and talent, working with community contacts and vendors, set up, writing scripts and run of shows for events and emcee duties
• Manage inventory of autographed items and giveaway items to include ordering supplies, distribution of items and organization of storage spaces
• Coordinate player visits and appearances throughout the season
• Respond to community requests for Herd support through email, phone, and in-person communication
• Maintain good relationships and standings throughout the community via team contacts
• Liaison for community relations projects between team and sponsors, charities, and general public
• Work with the VP of Partnership to manage fulfillment of all sponsorship contracts as related to community relations
• Manage, administer, support, direct fulfillment of donation requests
• Supervise Community Relations Interns and/or part time statistical/PR game day staff to include but not limited to hiring, distribution of work, scheduling, development, training, resolving grievances, discipline, and termination when needed
• Coordinate with League office NBA community relations programs. Assist in maintaining League relationship.
Annual Projects
• Print and distribute season media passes and credentials
• Work with Business Operations Coordinator to help facilitate media day and produce head-shot packages for team
• Promote player and coaches for post-season awards (research, write releases)
• Secure and deliver official NBA G League Scorebook
• Attend annual NBA G League stats training meeting and train stats crew
• Write & develop annual departmental report
Game Day Responsibilities
• Delegate any and all mentioned below to Public Relations team in regards to PR Duties and to Game Day Staff in regards to stats crew
• Manage statistical crew and monitor court side computerized statistical systems
• Update and compile Game Notes (Ensure copy is delivered to scouts, visiting media, radio, and team personnel)
• Single game credentials prepared and distributed
• Ensure scorer's table materials are delivered to scorer's table: scorebook, colored pens and pencils, rulebook, and operations manual
• Secure line-ups and officials names for PA announcer and official scorer
• Facilitate media and interviews
• Deliver flash stats to media, play-by-play announcer, and fans sitting courtside
• At the 3rd/4th quarter break deliver attendance from team President to record in official Box Score
• Update scores from around the NBA and NBA G League to Director of Game Production
• At the end of the game, deliver any ''promotional'' stats to sales and marketing department as well as craft a post-game story to be distributed to media
Qualifications
• Must have at least 7 years of experience in a Public Relations, Community Relations, or similar role and 2 years working in a sports related field
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, Sports Administration or a related degree
• Strong writing and communication skills, both technical and creative
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to handle multiple, time-sensitive tasks simultaneously
• Willingness to work non-traditional work hours (including nights and weekends)
• Detail-orientated with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution
• Proven leadership ability to influence, develop and empower employees to achieve objectives with a team approach
• Dynamic personality that can present and integrate across departments
