The Media Access Group @ WGBH creates captions, subtitles and audio description (AD) for a variety of media clients, including PBS, television networks, movie studios, online distributors and environmental installations. The Media Access Group (MAG) is a pioneer in making media accessible for people with sensory disabilities. The Caption Center (TCC) was the first captioning agency in the world. We helped pioneer the development of line-21 closed captioning for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing and we remain on the forefront of caption technology. Our audio description unit, Descriptive Video Service (DVS), provides important information about the visual elements of a program through the use of an additional narrative audio track for those with visual impairments.
As a member of the MAG team, this entry-level Post Production Audio Engineer will operate Avid Pro Tools to record, edit, and mix an Audio Description track for TV programs, online content and feature films. Upon completion, a finished Audio Description track will be created that will be used to give access to programming to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Additionally, this position is responsible for the I/O of all media received for MAG Production during shift hours. This includes ingest coordination and management for all source files, scripts and digital reference material. This includes working with MAG LA production members and Management, broadcast clients and MAG contractors; through monitoring, logging and processing all incoming and outgoing media files, DVD media and download links.
Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, communication and team building. Applicants will be expected to prioritize and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.
This position is classified as essential personnel. This position may include nights and weekends and additionally will require schedule shifting due to production needs.?
Responsibilities include:
• Provide support to management and administration which may include, transcoding and digitizing programming for production use.
• Perform offline Audio Description reformatting including conforming AD tracks to new masters and editing AD tracks for downstream uses.
• Log, organize and group content according to MAG policy and procedures for maximum facility input and output.
• Troubleshoot file delivery issues and regularly audit production tools, workflow processes and communication, implementing optimizations and changes as needed.
• Oversee video storage/archives, providing regular and ad hoc maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Entry-level experience recording, editing, and mixing dialogue and/or voice-only tracks in a production environment.
• Formal education in audio engineering, Pro Tools certification or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of post-production audio/video including editing standards and best practices.
• Production knowledge of video encoding and software, frame rates/sample bit rates, and various file attributes associated with audio and video file creation.
• Detail-oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to work rapidly, excellent problem-solving skills
