Creative Director, CNN Design
Location: United States - Georgia - Atlanta
The Job
WarnerMedia seeks a Creative Director for the CNN Design department.
The Creative Director position is primarily responsible to oversee the creative brand development and design of graphics/scenic for shows, specials, docs. The Creative Director position also works with Design Teams, On-Air Marketing & Promotions, Ad Sales and other company entities. This critical leadership position is necessary to ensure the creative product remains innovative, high quality and cost-efficient. Manage high and low level graphic support needs across a nearly 24/7 schedule with a team of Designers from creative, workflow and staffing perspectives. Collaborate with internal and external partners on long term steering initiatives.
The Daily
• Future planning and strategy: to work closely with the Sr. Design Director and department leaders to develop the strategic vision and long-range goals for the team.
• This position will drive brand images and develop innovative solutions for clients and initiatives across multiple platforms (on air, online, environmental and future new media).
• Assess current and future technological needs of the department.
• Make critical recommendations informed by the department's unique hardware, software and other technological needs.
• Ensure the department's product remains current, of high quality and cost-effective.
• Effectively evaluate and manage time, resources and budget availability in conjunction with deadlines to produce desired end product.
• Direct all aspects of design for our clients' projects (in all WarnerMedia entities) including concept, design, art direction and production.
• Lead new show designs Quality control over the look of the shows and their ongoing support Foster a collaborative environment, Head-up the onboarding process, Troubleshoot internal conflicts.
• Take an active role in developing and mentoring team members and invest in their career growth.
• Provide strong leadership to manage a design staff (direct reports) and multiple freelancers.
• Communicate project parameters and overall design goals; supervise project production and progress; evaluate staff on an ongoing basis, supervise and execute yearly reviews.
The Essentials
• 5-7 years broadcast design experience is necessary with experience managing and mentoring junior staff.
• Understanding creation software, compression, playback2-3 years in management capacity instructing designers: guiding and directing high/entry level designers and clients with tact and empathy.
• Diplomatically and strategically providing direction to and supporting executives.
• Presenting, advocating and defending visual concepts.
• In some cases, guiding lateral managers.
• Knowledge of hardware/software, control room workflows and some engineering.
• Knowledge of world news, current events and documentary Design Degree, BFA or equivalent from an accredited Art/Design school or equivalent work experience.
• High Level Design background (creative development, composition, typography, color, motion design, templating concepts, 2D/3D design, photography, video production concepts, small/large format print)
