Associate Producer, Explanatory U CNN Politics-Dc
The Job
The news cycle is moving faster than ever before, and CNN's audiences are looking for reliable, readable journalism that explains complex issues and helps them understand what is most important and how it will affect their daily lives.
This associate producer will support our explanatory work, collaborating with editors and reporters across CNN Politics as well as other digital and newsgathering teams to expand our coverage and elevate our presentation.
The mission will be to create distinctive work that emphasizes the best of CNN's DNA: Urgency. Essential, global ''Go There'' reporting. Facts backed by data. Journalism that holds power to account. Stories that connect dots and explain consequences. Creative thinking about how to best serve audiences.
The Daily
You will be responsible for supporting production, programming, and promotion for our digital explanatory work across beats, including coordinating with programming and social teams across CNN Digital.
The preferred candidate is focused on educating readers, is exceptionally well-organized and is dedicated to fostering collaboration. Testing innovative approaches to connecting with readers and highlighting digital work will be welcomed and encouraged.
Daily tasks will include producing explanatory work in our CMS from our newsletter and other teams, partnering with beat editors and programming to drive audiences to our fresh offerings as well as to our growing library of resources. Other responsibilities will include managing existing content, keeping it updated and fresh.
The Essentials
• About 1-2 years of editorial experience
• Familiarity with editorial planning and digital production
• Ability to escalate problems and roadblocks as they occur
• College degree preferred
• Good writing and storytelling skills
• Basic understanding of how to write and frame stories for a digital audience
• Ability to collaborate across teams to produce content, brainstorm ideas and explain complicated issues
• Ability to drive content into new mediums, which could include newsletters, podcasts, etc
