Assistant, Business & Legal Affairs
Job Description:
Job Title: Business & Legal Affairs Assistant
A little bit about our team:
The Elektra Music Group's Business & Legal Affairs department is comprised of two attorneys who are responsible for the negotiation and drafting of all new artist agreements as well as handling the myriad legal issues that arise in connection with Elektra's rostered artists. Your job will be to provide strong administrative support to the department with the opportunity to hone your communication, writing and research skills.
Why this could be your next big break:
The Business & Legal Affairs department touches on every aspect of a record label's product, so we work very closely with the A&R, marketing, promotion, publicity and video departments. This is a great opportunity for you to get a bird's eye view of the legal issues relevant to the entire music industry and to learn the nitty-gritty of label operations while interfacing with people from all across the label. Most exciting, you'll be coming on board at the beginning of a new venture and will be able to contribute to the culture of the company.
Here you'll get to:
In addition to general assistant duties (including answering phones and scheduling meetings):
• You will, under attorney supervision, have the opportunity to compose legal correspondence, with the possibility of drafting specific kinds of documentation such as no objection letters and live performance agreements.
• You will engage in contractual and internet research projects.
• You will have the opportunity to assume contract administration responsibilities for artist contracts.
• You will be responsible for preparing contract execution copies and coordinating the appropriate signatures.
• You will be responsible for submitting expense reports and receipts.
• You will be responsible for opening, recording and distributing mail and other important legal notifications to the appropriate parties within the company.
Rockstar candidates will be able to:
• You have a college degree or several years' relevant experience as an executive level assistant in the music industry.
• You are skilled in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• You are highly organized, resourceful, have an attention to detail and are rigorous about proofing your own work (and occasionally the work of others!).
• You are outgoing, positive, poised and professional on the phone, e-mail and in dealing with other company executives.
• You have a passion for music and a genuine interest in the music industry.
It would be music to our ears if you also had:
• Paralegal experience, experience as an executive level assistant at a media company, music industry experience or any combination of the foregoing!
• Completed an undergraduate music business program.
