The Job
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Inc. seek a WM Library Historian for the WW Executive Management department.
Job Responsibilities
Sales & Distribution:
• Lead and oversee strategy for Warner Archive Collection (WAC) /Manufacturing-On-Demand Business ($11M Annual Operating Contribution):
• Program release slate for WAC utilizing specialized knowledge of legacy content
• Determine street dates and release strategy across film and tv, inclusive of BBC releases for titles that leave mass retail distribution
• Oversee Creative process and approve packaging development for all new WAC products
• Review and QC new WAC masters
• Supervise and Oversee WAC Marketing for entire slate
• Produce and host WAC podcast
• Oversee social media marketing efforts
• Oversee PR efforts on WAC related items
Produce WAC newsletter
• Provide technical and historical guidance on New to Format 4K and multi-feature feasibility
• Oversee day-to-day determination of sublicensing deals with Criterion / Shout Factory
Studios & Networks:
• Provide guidance/background for library chain-of-title inquiries (including by advising on historic details/relationships that may not appear in formal documents)
• Advise on change of ownership and reversion issues related to music publishing assets
• Assist in identifying and confirming ownership of film master recordings and commercial phonograph recordings, including artist(s) and union relationships and obligations
• Partner with WaterTower Music to suggest marketing and release initiatives for WarnerMedia music holdings heretofore unexploited
• Coordinate with Global Media Assets to: (a) respond to third party inquiries regarding ownership of film elements under WarnerMedia's control; and (b) locate and repatriate film elements owned by WarnerMedia but housed by third party laboratories and facilities
• Suggest programming concepts and marketing initiatives around library and key events (e.g., anniversaries, collections built around top tier talent, etc.) in collaboration with the studio's yearly preservation budget
• Identify title candidates and then search internal and external archives for best quality film elements to commence restoration and remastering
• Liaise between Studio & Networks, HBO Max, TCM, WHE and Theatrical Classics to provide technical and historical guidance on High Def and/or 4K catalogue releases
• Coordinate with third parties and archives on joint restoration projects; e.g., UCLA, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, The Film Foundation
• Coordinate with HBO Max and TCM on ''event'' titles that can be promoted on-air and sold through various WarnerMedia distribution channels
All WarnerMedia BUs
• Serve as central point person to advise on rare ephemeral items from the WBEI library and how this IP can be best utilized for commercial and promotional opportunities
• Maintain established relationships and point of contact with certain talent and estates concerning library content
• Serve as historical advisor to legal, marketing and corporate communications regarding ''sensitive'' content
• Act as a resource on day-to-day inquiries from legal on film libraries, ownership, talent, heirs, estate representation, etc.
The Essentials
• 20 years experience with and deep knowledge of and familiarity with, WarnerMedia film library (including MGM, RKO, Lorimar and Allied Artists libraries), television and music catalog, including acquired libraries and co-productions.
• Must have established key, high-level relationships with industry organizations, including the AMPAS, MPAA and academic institutions.
• Must have established high-level working relationships and excellent reputation with representatives, heirs and estates of iconic WarnerMedia talent (e.g., Kubrick, Astaire, etc.)
• Must be able to supervise multiple people and projects
• Must have 20 years of marketing experience, as well as film restoration, and podcast and newsletter production experience.
• Must have 20 years of experience with and deep knowledge and understanding of film and film industry history. Must have the ability to work closely in a collaborative manner with talent and talent estates. Must have excellent communication skills.
