Warner Bros. The Job
Warner Bros. Television, a division of WB Studio Enterprises Inc. seek a Manager, Music for the TV Music department. In-House Music Supervisor, to provide creative and logistical management for WBTV produced television series, MFTs, and mini-series and new media content from a creative, budgetary, and administrative standpoint. This position will service all interdivisional creative needs for productions, publicity, marketing, merchandising, home entertainment, as well as such needs pertaining to outside partners including networks and co-production studios.
The Daily
• Research and evaluate new musical artists. Pitch recording artists, musical acts and songs for shows and producers. View all video cuts for assigned shows and submit creative music ideas accordingly.
• Maintains close contact with music point person on the show to contribute creative concepts, supervise playbacks on stage and resolve mixing issues related to music.
• Regularly review each assigned episodic and pilot script(s), call sheets and production schedules to anticipate and ensure music needs are met. Works with the producers to interpret music needs, in order to create suggestions of songs and musical acts.
• Notify Manager of Music Production of any on-camera needs, and coordinate budget estimates for producer. Notifies Music Clearance of songs to be used by the shows.
• Track the lock date for composer issues and the mix date for licensed music. Ensure music point person on each show has appropriate music as well as alternates of cleared music to anticipate possible replacement needs.
• Oversees and ensures external Music Supervisors follow studio policies and procedures and fulfills all union requirements. (e.g. hiring on and off camera musicians/singers), etc.
• Supervise pre-records and scoring sessions. Ensure compliance with COVID-19 Return to Work Protocols, and grant authorization when secured.
• Negotiates fees and secures recording studios and sound mixers. Coordinates all logistical and budgetary aspects of scoring and recording sessions.
• Liaison with producers and stages in order to facilitate smooth activities relative to Music.
• Interfaces with writers, musicians, contractors, and singers who perform the services of a songwriter or lyricist in order to obtain information pertinent to Certificates of Authorship, and ascertain if release of exclusivity may be required.
• Schedules, develops, and prepares budgets for music related elements; including, break-down of scripts, assessment of music needs, and developing a music strategy to meet the production needs within budget parameters. Monitors budgets for assigned shows and clarifies discrepancies on a timely basis.
• Works with studio development and production, and producers, to assess music needs for Pilots and new original series, to establish and detail music budgets which incorporate creative needs, as well as address budgeting limitations set by network licensing fees, balanced with other production needs and costs.
• Works closely in conjunction with World Wide Marketing and Publicity, coordinating with producers, and independent contractors to provide budgets, legal clearance, and creative direction and musical pitches to effectuate marketing campaigns, special projects, promotional materials, including pop-ups, trailers, promos, sizzle reels, streaming playlists and social media content.
• Oversee and implement collection and distribution of all music assets, directed strategic marketing plans, liaison with sister divisions and partner networks and studios to effectuate accurate transfer of data and materials to facilitate publicity and marketing needs, or other requests and/or fulfilment of contractual obligations.
• Assists in the processing of all New-Use Phonograph Claims in coordination with Licensing and the Manager of Music Production.
• Distributes current musical releases to producers and pitches/places songs to picture.
• Hires vocalists and musicians for the shows according to SAG and AFM guidelines and rates.
The Essentials
• Bachelor's degree preferred. High School graduate of equivalent
• 3 to 5 years in Music industry required.
• 2 years in film or TV production required
• Production experience in the entertainment industry especially desirable
• TV/Music Production/Music Supervision experience preferred.
• Must be able to work on several tasks simultaneously. – especially diverse tasks incorporating creative and budgetary issues.
• Ability to accurately estimate, create and revise budgets.
• Ability to meet deadlines when under pressure and while maintaining accuracy.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, to set own priorities and track deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Experience with AFM and SAG preferable.
• Diverse musical knowledge.
• Knowledge of AFM and SAG regulations and rates.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Extra and Outlook
• Familiarity with database management, creation, and organization
• Must have the ability to create and work with budgets.
• Literacy in production paperwork, including scripts, call sheets, production reports, etc. Must have good written and verbal communication skills sufficient to convey and receive detailed information.
