The News Operations Manager supervises and trains the Media Supervisor, Chief Photographer and SNG Technicians as well as oversees the operation and maintenance of electronic news gathering facilities and newsroom operations. This position advises the Assistant News Director and VP News on matters related to electronic news gathering equipment, including streaming, microwave and satellite transmission. Establishes and maintains maintenance schedules for electronic news gathering equipment including iNews computer system. Oversees and advises the News Department regarding the implementation of new technology in the newsroom, and communication equipment including cell phones. Individual is responsible for conducting annual performance appraisals for all supervisors and technicians under his/her supervision. Responsible for assuring compliance will all relevant Department of Transportation and FCC regulations. This role assists the Assistant News Director and the VP News in researching and developing the News Department's annual capital and operating budgets. Individual must be organized and be detail oriented. Must be able to communicate clearly and deal effectively/politely with the staff he/she supervises, contractors and the general public. Must have an exemplary driving record and provide WAGA with an official copy of his/her Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the previous three years. A Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university, or technical school preferred. Candidate must have commensurate experience in a commercial television news operation including five years of experience in electronic news gathering operations (microwave and satellite). Candidate must have previous supervisory experience. Prior experience with Bit Central servers preferred. EOE M/F/D/V
