Visit Films/Monument Releasing is seeking a head of acquisitions for the acquisition and licensing of feature films and documentaries. This job is a great opportunity for an individual who wants to be involved in all aspects of building, maintaining and curating a film slate for a boutique sales and distribution company.
The ideal candidate will have extensive filmmaker contacts and be well versed in the selection or curation of films in either an acquisitions or film festival setting. This job requires extensive domestic and international travel as well as work both in and out of an office. The candidate should be comfortable reviewing incoming projects, interacting with filmmakers and producers, drafting proposals and contracts, film market and festival preparation, negotiating film rights licensing information and possible development work..
Main Responsibilities:
- Sourcing content from various filmmakers, producers, production companies, agencies
- Identifying projects for consideration across all stages of development
- Screening and providing coverage of potential acquisitions, maintaining a log of all potential projects
- Drafting proposals and contracts, negotiating terms
- Researching and attending major film festivals, markets and co-production markets, including Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca, SXSW and creating screening schedules
Experience and Skills:
• Impeccable taste in film with the ability to defend a project and define a slate
• Strong industry contacts, in particular with producers and directors
• Bachelors' Degree required
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and database software
• Demonstrated experience in Acquisitions or Programming in the film industry (sales, distribution, festival or production), ability and enthusiasm to learn about the film business and its environment (should not be afraid of numbers and legal language).
• Strong communication and organizational skills with a specific focus on attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and adapt to the demands of the job meeting strict deadlines, problem-solving skills, remaining flexible, calm and focused while multi-tasking
• Experience with/interest in independent film
• Interest in international travel
• Enthusiastic and personable, ability to speak to filmmakers with comfort and ease, good networking skills mandatory. Ability to spend long hours with your colleagues in foreign countries and maintain a positive attitude.
• Negotiation skills
• Fluency in at least one foreign language extremely helpful
Salary and Title - tbd but commensurate with experience in the indie film ecosphere.

Location - Either in LA or NYC. Tbd.
