Overview
VICE News Tonight is looking for an experienced assistant editor for the LA Bureau. The candidate must have a clear understanding of our show and our style of storytelling. Sample work/links are required, as is a resume and professional references. Our assistant editors are the primary force for organization within our edits. Their responsibilities run throughout the post process from ingest to delivery. Assistant editors are often asked to perform radio edits and will be asked to do assembly work before editors take over. The ideal candidate will have experience in a network news environment and take pride in thorough and efficient work, as well as tackling new problems as they arise. Candidates should also be aware that this is a fast-paced work environment and requests for paid overtime hours and weekend work will be frequent. Although this is a five day per week job, shifts in schedule will be frequently required. Candidates should be passionate about telling news stories of all shape and sizes.
Responsibilities
• Ingest media in SAN and StorNext environments
• Sync and organize footage within standardized project structures
• Make exports for translation/transcription and review
• Make radio edits and scene cut-downs, assemble basic scenes and interviews
• Download and organize supplementary materials such as music/graphics/archival for editors
• Media manage and transfer projects using FTP or Aspera
Qualifications:
• 2-5 years of assistant editing experience ideally in a network news environment
• Fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Suite
• Understands the post finishing workflow for delivery of on-air and social assets
• Strong working knowledge of digital codecs and their appropriate applications
• Experience with metadata tagging on ingest to a media asset management system (Xchange or similar)
• Strong desire for to grow and eventually have a career as an editor for a news network
• Ability to work in fast paced, ever-changing environment
