Overnight Broadcast Associate - Booking, CBS This Morning
Seeking a smart, creative, and enthusiastic Broadcast Associate with a strong journalistic sense and desire to learn booking skills. This Broadcast Associate pitches new stories, flags potential leads on interviews we should pursue, gathers elements (both traditional news gathering and social media mining), assists in booking guests for live or tape segments, makes calls overnight on breaking news, makes sure guests are in place for the show, and coordinates with overnight staff on stories that are developing.
Candidates must have strong editorial skills and strong work ethic, as well as a desire to learn how to develop relationships, strategically book, and develop newsgathering skills. This position requires high energy and persistence, as well as a basic understanding of TV newsgathering. The ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally is essential. Candidates must be flexible with travel requirements and changing schedules as the position will, at times, require going into the field, and to remote locations on short notice where breaking news is unfolding. This role will be based in NY and will be an overnight role.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Some newsroom experience is preferred.
Must have solid news judgment and experience chasing breaking news in some capacity.
Basic knowledge of broadcast newsgathering process is required.
Strong research skills including working with public and private records databases, such as Lexis Nexis, social media, and other methods is preferred.
Must be an excellent writer with well-developed oral communication skills, especially when working on sensitive stories.
Must be able to juggle and prioritize multiple stories with different deadlines.
Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
Thrives in high-pressure and time-critical situations.
Degree in broadcast journalism or related field is preferred.
Passion for news, journalism, and storytelling is required.
Must be willing and able to work overnight and/or weekend shift if needed
