Smithsonian Channel is looking for an Executive Producer to work alongside the VP, Social Media, to develop and execute projects that evolve and grow our digital footprint and engage broader audiences. The Social Executive Producer will be passionate about developing short and mid-form content across topical genres ranging across Air & Space, Nature & Wildlife, and Arts & Culture. They will oversee daily video production and distribution across Smithsonian Channel's social platforms including, but not limited to, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok.
The successful candidate should be well-versed in social trends and strategies within the digital/editorial video space with proven expertise in developing platform intentional creative across social. They should have strong production skills and comfort with innovating and updating strategies and content as needed to serve a fast-paced non-fiction content strategy. S/he/They should be tireless at identifying unique content partnerships and evolving creative non-fiction content for Smithsonian Channel to have an engaging impact on its audiences while furthering Smithsonian's educational mission.
You have experience creating video content across all social platforms, supervising production from development through post and have a well-developed aesthetic for visual storytelling leveraging motion graphics. The successful candidate will be passionate about current events, an avid life-long learner and interested in relating to younger audiences, and be an excellent collaborator with an ability to work interdepartmentally to create impactful content.
Responsibilities
include:
• Coordinating a variety of video projects across our catalogue of short-form and social series (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, Streaming Services).
• Developing projects that are credible, interesting, and engaging by integrating Smithsonian expertise in culture, history, science, and aeronautics, pushing appropriate and ownable concepts to market
• Evolve our brands digital content portfolio to initiate new formats and series, that attract new audiences and grow social engagement.
• Updating and streamlining process and workflows while incorporating concepts from and crafting alignments with linear, marketing, ad sales and podcasting groups.
• Ensuring video content is creatively and structurally optimized to live across platforms
• Leading a team of producers, shooters, editors and other staffers to optimize content.
• Collaborating with editorial directors on bringing ideas and franchises to life.
• Evolving the overall video strategy, optimizing for original content that regularly drives engagement and views while running within budget to develop a long-term, balanced video engagement growth plan.
• Work strategically with Research and Audience Development to understand what video works – and what doesn't.
• Stay continually involved in all Product discussions, taking responsibility for how content is published and viewed by the audience.
Basic Qualifications:
• BA required.
• 8 years experience producing high caliber social video content.
• 5 years experience managing creative teams.
Additional Qualifications:
• Experience working across many different teams (including Editorial, Marketing, Ad Sales and others) to inform and produce content.
• A clear understanding of the non-fiction storytelling space and a passion for crafting innovative content for social audiences.
• A passion social media and non-fiction content.
• Advanced understanding of video production and post-production workflows.
• Understanding of production standards and rights and clearances considerations and process
