This is a unique opportunity to grow and lead the Viacom Media Networks labor relations function. The SVP, Labor Relations, Viacom Media Networks will oversee, and help build, a team of labor relations professionals covering all the Viacom Media Networks (Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, BET, Comedy Central, The Paramount Network, VH1, TV Land, CMT and Logo) and responsible for:
• Providing strategic legal and labor advice to the business affairs, production, digital and creative departments of Viacom Media Networks regarding all manner of union and guild compliance issues.
• Negotiating and implementing all collective bargaining agreements and one-off side letters for various production entities, including: DGA, SAG-AFTRA, WGA, IATSE, Teamsters and all other crew agreements in the US and, when applicable, overseas. (Note that Viacom Media Networks is not a member of the AMPTP.)
• Providing day-to-day counsel on labor contract interpretation and risk (including, work rules, rates, residuals and other compensation), and communicating that information in a timely, diligent, and comprehensible manner to business affairs, production, and creative executives.
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with labor organizations, outside labor counsel, Paramount labor department, and labor executives at other similarly-situated companies.
This position will report to the SVP, Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment Law, Viacom Inc. and will oversee a team of 5-6 labor relations professionals, with the opportunity to hire multiple of those positions.
Basic Qualifications
• 10 years minimum of combined experience at Television Entertainment Company, Entertainment Guild and/or Law Firm Labor Department with substantial experience in Scripted and Alternative Television Development and Production Contract Law
• Expert working knowledge of Guild (WGA, DGA, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA) and union regulations and issues, related legal trends and business practices
• Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Entertainment and Content transactions and ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
• Supervisory experience and ability to effectively lead a team of labor relations professionals
Additional Qualifications
• J.D. with active California or New York Bar membership preferred
• Must be detail-oriented and possess superior drafting, negotiation, organizational and time management skills
• Ability to top-line issues for senior network executives on a daily basis and communicate in a clear, concise and succinct manner both verbally and in writing
• Strong relationships with Entertainment Guilds and unions, and industry colleagues
