Full Time Job
The Manager of Music and Licensing Strategy will work closely with VP to formulate licensing strategy and negotiate favorable rates for the use of music and other third party elements in Paramount Network and TV Land content, including scripted, reality, documentary, short form digital, marketing and/or advertising content. The Manager of Music and Licensing Strategy will be at the forefront of the production process communicating regularly with production (in-house and/or third party), production management, creative, Marketing, business development, Business and Legal Affairs, and IP Litigation teams pushing forward strategy and securing clearances to achieve creative vision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work on projects assigned by Vice President ranging from long and short form programming for linear and digital platforms, promos, third party productions, in house productions, re-clearances and more.
Demonstrate the following qualifications:
• Expertise in licensing for all types of media platforms worldwide
• In depth knowledge of music, its history, genres, and styles, and must be up to date with current music.
• Established relationships within the licensing community including but not limited to record labels, music publishers, managers, music supervisors, production companies, and composers.
• Understanding the creative and practical needs of Music Supervisors, TV Producers and Composers and Artists, Record Labels, Music Publishers, PROs, Music Clearance and Music Administrators
• Comprehensive understanding of music and media industry trends for new partnership and cross promotional opportunities.

Liaise between Network execs and 3P Music Supervisors to execute on the Networks wishes for the sound of the shows. Pitch music for projects.
Partner with Department SVP and VP to create a Music Supervision/Creative Music Integration process at Paramount Network and TV Land.
Collaborate with VP in the preparation of music budgets, development of strategies, evaluation of rights and implementation of procedures to work within production budgets. Attend greenlight and music meetings with Production and Development teams.
Act as music supervisor for Network in-house projects to create effective and collaborative and process between Network and external third party music supervisors.
Ensure that Productions execute on Network music cue sheet requirements, ensuring that accurate cue sheets are delivered on time.
Work closely and collaborate with client stakeholders at all stages of creative and production process to flag rights issues/necessary permission, and propose alternative solutions during the content production and execution process, including but not limited to, reviewing scripts to identify music, lyrics, footage, photos and third party intellectual property requiring clearance; researching copyright ownership; preparing, reviewing and securing quotes from copyright holders; tracking rights, including media rights and in-context promotional rights, to ensure consistency with what's required for each production; monitoring clearance budgets; maintaining and reviewing clearance reports; and ensuring accurate legal delivery of clearance documentation.
Conduct copyright research and facilitate clearance requests. Negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners of music, film, TV, photography, video games, digital content, books, magazines, record label content, artist management, etc. Track and process all license payments.
Participate in workshops for client groups, and build and foster good working relationships within Viacom Media Networks.
Regular reporting of clearance costs to Production and Production Management via tracking grids and over the phone/via email. Work closely with these areas and proactively suggest cost-saving options and alternatives.
Review and draft license agreements. Maintain contract files and tracking reports for all assigned programs/projects and ensure that licenses are executed and paid in a timely manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
From time to time this position may oversee project based employees and/or interns.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a production company, film studio, television network, music publisher, record label, or law firm. Experience in a production company, or television network within a music department and/or licensing capacity highly preferable. Prior negotiating experience a must. Tech-savvy individual proficient in all current document and database systems.
BA in Television, Film, Communications, Publishing, Business or similar preferred.
Looking for a proactive contributor whom can both work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects at any given time.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to analyze and interpret complex license agreements. Ability to make effective presentations on rights and licensing related topics to client groups and employees. Ability to effectively negotiate with licensors via email, phone, and in-person. Strong interpersonal skills (including the ability to effectively interact with a range of personalities and styles to establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization)
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, e.g.; budgeting, tracking reports, controlled portions of compositions/fees.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to accurately analyze contract and license agreements. Ability to draw conclusions from working knowledge of issues that impact the area of rights licensing including copyright & trademark law and union/guild issues.
