Contract: Full-time for 11 months starting January 2019
Background:
The Nickelodeon UK Network is available in 14 million cable and satellite homes and now reaches more than 10 million viewers a month. Launched in 1993, the top-performing Nickelodeon network comprises seven dedicated entertainment channels for kids aged 4-15 and their families: Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon HD, Nickelodeon 1, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., Nick Jr. 1 and Nick Jr. 2. The entertainment company has built a diverse multi-platform business by putting kids first in everything it does – Kids Rule!
Content is at the core of the business with critically-acclaimed and hugely-popular television programming from the UK and around the world merging with bespoke content online, as well as consumer product and recreation opportunities such as the UK’s first-ever Nick theme park, Nickelodeon Land.
Nickelodeon network shows include: SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action hits Sam & Cat, The Haunted Hathaways, The Thundermans, iCarly, and Victorious.
The Department:
The creative services department is responsible for the channel’s on-air promotions, presentation and design, as well as the creation of marketing, client advertisements, sales tapes and cross channel promotions, whilst ensuring all campaigns are creatively aligned across digital and print. The Creative services department must ensure that Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and Nick Jr. deliver on their individual brand promises, while driving ratings and brand affinity.
Job Purpose:
The Junior Motion Graphics Designer is responsible for assisting on all day to day design requests for the creative services team, working to create bugs, stunt logos, lower thirds graphics and graphics used in promotional campaigns across all Nickelodeon brands.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
• Working closely with the graphics designer to create monthly navigational graphics continuity.
• Creating graphic content, including promo graphics and grading, on-air channel branding, navigation, continuity, and any bespoke visuals.
• Recreating, adapting and animating existing graphics.
• Designing off-air print materials for press and marketing purposes, and assets for use online.
• Keeping all channel and show style guides up to date.
• Providing general technical support to the creative department.
• Contributing ideas in creative meetings.
• Storyboarding ideas for any variety of live action, illustration or graphics concepts
Key skills:
• A good knowledge of After Effects is essential
• Experience with industry standard plugins such as Particular is preferable
• Very good knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
• Attention to details, good understanding of general design principles including typography, and layout.
• Experience with Cinema4D.
• Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Animate, and Adobe Indesign desirable.
Person Specification:
• Qualification in a relevant Moving Image Graphics course
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role
• Previous experience in graphics trends and the multi-channel television market
• Knowledge of Post Production techniques and formats are a plus
• Interest for TV broadcast design, passionate designer, eager to learn more
• Ability to multi task, plan and prioritise workload
• Ability to work under pressure in order to adhere to tight deadlines
• Good organisational skills
• Good sense of humour
• Team player
Candidates must be able to provide a showreel that demonstrates experience with animation and understanding of graphic design principles.
