Head Of Finance Vis UK
Job Title: HEAD OF PRODUCTION FINANCE
Department: VIACOM INTERNATIONAL STUDIOS UK (VIS UK)
Reporting To: GENERAL MANAGER, VIS UK
Location: HAWLEY CRESCENT, LONDON
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Viacom International Studios UK (VIS UK), produces nearly 125 hours of television each year for Channel 5, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Comedy Central and Viacom.
We also pitch to the wider UK market, building relationships with and creating ideas for all major broadcasters. We have also invested in one independent production company (Uplands TV), providing them with management and operational support, including finance.
To date, we have primarily focussed on non-scripted programming, largely in factual, entertainment, comedy and reality. However, we are now gearing up for a significant push into the scripted genres, and are already producing our first major children’s drama, ‘Goldie’s Oldies’.
With this in mind, we are now looking to hire an experienced Head of Production Finance to help us ensure our systems are fit for purpose in all genres, that they comply with all Viacom’s and statutory requirements, and that the financial support we give to our programmes is of the highest standard.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Direct report to the General Manager, VIS UK (but working closely also with Viacom’s senior finance teams) and currently managing three people (two Production Accountants and one Finance Administrator) plus freelance roles hired as required, this role will provide financial and Production Accounting support to ensure the smooth running of VIS UK and Uplands TV.
VIS UK has expanded significantly over the last couple of years, and is looking for someone who can lead on all aspects of the financial management of the company. We’ll be looking to appoint someone who isn’t afraid of leading and delivering change, and who has experience of handling a high volume of simultaneous projects in a range of genres (knowledge of scripted and non-scripted programming is a definite plus).
This role will support the wider business, with accurate reporting and analysis a key priority.
There are likely to be opportunities over time for career development as VIS UK continues to grow.
Key aspects of the role will include:
- Analysis of data and numbers to help support strategic decision making
- Optimal management of Production budgets to help drive profit growth
- Close working relationships with the Head of Production and all the production teams
- Tracking Development and Operational / Admin spends against budget
- Review and preparation of final (and monthly) cost reports, per programme
- Ensuring VIS UK is up to date with Viacom’s finance policies – T E, taxis, credit cards etc
- Managing the Freelance invoice process, ensuring all hires are paid accurately and on time
- Overseeing the process of managing cash, and cash floats
- Reconciling monthly to the Management accounts
- Setting up and management of Production Accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets
- Planning and preparing tax credit applications, and advising on tax break opportunities
- Improving production and operational efficiencies, and implementing process improvements (knowledge of PMI (or similar), including the implementation of such software would be an advantage)
- Compliance with SOX, DOA, Viacom policies and procedures, including maintenance of strong internal controls (e.g. cash management)
- Ad hoc tasks and projects as required by VIS UK and the independent company we support
- Managing an initial team of 3, and helping to identify and hire future roles as required
The independent company support requires similar support but is standalone. You’ll need to be able to:
- Work with the GM (VIS UK) and the company MDs to agree financial policies and procedures
- Set up cash flow, forecast and budgets for 3/5YP
- Work with your team to prepare accurate numbers for regular management and Board meetings
- Complete and submit regular VAT returns, monthly management accounts and cash flow forecasts
- Lead on all aspects of pension enrolment, including management of the agreed process
- Royalty reporting, where required
- Review of programme margins and production efficiencies with the company MDs and HOPs
- Lead on the preparation and provision of all necessary information in advance of annual audits
- Lead on bank production finance, if needed for any cost of money commissions or deals
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
- Qualified ACA/CIMA/ACCA, or with significant evidence of QBE

- Experience at the relevant level, including management of a team in a TV production company
- Excellent MS office skills, including advanced skills in Excel
- Demonstrated ability to pick up new accounting systems (eg SAP) and preferably experience thereof
- Experience of working in a fast paced, high pressure environment
