Background:
The Nickelodeon UK Network consists of four core channels; Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., Nick Jr. 1 and Nick Jr. 2 targeting kids 4-15 years. Nickelodeon is everywhere kids are; retail, consumer products, themeparks, live shows and apps and websites with a broad range of bespoke digital content from games to short-form.
With the evolving content landscape and the rapid development of distribution avenues, audience expectations for accessing content are growing. There is a recognition that the business content strategies need to evolve it in order to maximise revenue potential and maintain brand saliency.
Purpose of the role:
• To ensure all Nickelodeon content is compliant in accordance with regulatory codes (Ofcom/ASA) as well as in line with brand values
• To play a key role within the Compliance Team ensuring content is sourced, viewed, edited and distributed in a timely manner, to a high specification
• To be a go to person for all compliance queries, across linear, non-linear, promos, sponsorship and advertising; advising internal and external parties as to the correct procedure whilst knowing when to seek guidance from senior figures
• To play a key role in the further growth of the Compliance Team and wider Editorial Operations team in order to best support the Programming Department and the wider business
Key Accountabilities:
• Viewing and editing new content for VIMN Kids brands, encompassing commissioned, acquired and produced internally; taking editorial responsibility to ensure compliance with regulations
• Editing new and existing content using Adobe Premiere Pro to create fully compliant masters for broadcast
• Using knowledge and experience to make the correct decisions in terms of compliance with the regulatory codes but also knowing when to seek advice from senior staff
• Working collectively with other members of the team in order to decide the best way forward when faced with compromising compliance situations
• Working under own supervision for large periods of time, while making efforts to remain visible and accessible to the programming team and the wider company
• Advising internal and external teams with regard to compliance with regulations
• Ordering pipeline content via Global Content Operations workflow
• Delivery of long form material via Cantemo, ensuring that material is delivered on time, as well as highlighting any potentially late deliveries
• QC all incoming material, to ensure optimal standards on air as well as troubleshooting any issues with distributor
• Work with Planning teams to ensure content is formatted in accordance with break templates and durations guidelines
• Managing appropriate programme material information into What’s On, and generating asset ID’s – ensuring that the correct media is scheduled
• Checking Channel Plans/Programme Grids and schedules to ensure programme materials are received in good time for TX and On-Air requirements
• Liaison with Planning, Creative, Re-voice and IMM teams to ensure all materials are available as necessary on time and without errors
• Providing information to On-Air, Live, Marketing etc. about specific clips, episodes etc. for competitions, stunts, promos and so on
• Distribution of content to third parties using a wide variety of tools such as Media Silo, Media Shuttle, Cantemo, Signiant
• Report any operational issues to Operations and Compliance Manager and work with them as well as any Engineering or IT teams to ensure prompt resolution
• Develop a good relationship with all regular internal and external contacts
• Deputise for the Compliance Manager as and when required
• Compiling and editing show reels for internal and external use
• Attending weekly meetings and contributing to the team
Experience and Knowledge
• Proven experience in compliance editing within the UK market, preferably within Children’s TV
• Extensive knowledge and experience of dealing with all Ofcom regulations to include PSE fixes
• Solid understanding of editing software, ideally Adobe Premiere Pro
• A working knowledge of broadcast media formats
• Demonstrable problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated understanding of the Nickelodeon brand
• Excellent communication skills in all formats
• Evidence of building strong, trusting relationships internally and externally
