USA Baseball is the national governing body for the sport of baseball in the United States and is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The organization selects and trains the Olympic, Pan Am, Premier12 and World Baseball Classic teams (and all other USA Baseball Professional Teams); the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team; the USA Baseball 18U, 15U and 12U National Teams; and the USA Baseball Women's National Team, all of which participate in various international competitions each year.
USA Baseball and its alumni have shined in its brief history, beginning a longstanding tradition of excellence dating back to 1972, when our first alumnus was selected with the number one overall pick in the MLB Draft, and also to 1988, when we won our first Olympic gold medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. Since 1972, 34 USA Baseball alumni have been selected first overall in the MLB. On the international stage, USA Baseball has won 30 world championships, six of which have come since 2015, including its first-ever World Baseball Classic championship.
The organization is also responsible for the proliferation and health of the sport in the United States. Through a tremendous partnership with Major League Baseball, USA Baseball and its Sport Development department leads a number of amateur initiatives including Fun At Bat, Pitch Smart and PLAY BALL to enhance and secure the long-term growth of our game both domestically and internationally. To date, these programs have contributed greatly to the overall introduction and participation in the sport, surpassing 25 million kids in the United States alone.
