Part Time Unpaid Internship
Baseball Operations Intern (12U National Team)
Start Date: January 14, 2019
End Date: August 31, 2019
*Part time hours January 14 - May 3; Full time hours May 6– August 30.
*This is a paid position.
Position Reports To: Director, 12U National Team Program (Will Schworer)
Position Background:
The USA Baseball 12U National Team utilizes different events to identify athletes for its National Team roster: The 12U Open Development Camps and the 10U and 11U Futures Invitational events. From the 12U Open Development Camps held across the country, USA Baseball will select 112 of the top athletes to be invited to participate in the culminating USA Baseball National Open. A minimum of 14 players from the National Open will be invited to participate in the 12U National Team Trials immediately following the event. The USA Baseball 10U & 11U Futures Invitational events are used as an additional identification opportunity for the 12U National Team. The Futures Invitational is an invite-only tournament that allows travel teams to showcase their abilities against teams from all across the country. From the Futures Invitational, USA Baseball will select a minimum of eight players to participate in the 12U National Team Trials.
At the 12U National Team Trials, players will participate in Stripes vs. Stars intrasquad scrimmages, workouts and other team-building activities. At the conclusion of the Trials, USA Baseball task force members and the 12U National Team staff will select the final roster of 18-20 players for the 12U National Team.
Position Responsibilities:
• Serve as a key liaison to the Futures Invitational team contacts.
• Provide administrative support for the Futures Invitational including but not limited to gathering roster and insurance information, communicating with programs via phone, email, and fielding questions about the event.
• Assist in communication and shipping of materials to coaches for Open Development Camps
• Conduct online and on-site registration for the National Open and Future Invitational events.
• Assist in all administrative needs for the 12U National Team Trials and Training.
• Perform a wide range of administrative and operational duties associated with other USA Baseball events and assist other departments within the organization as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Available to travel during the month of July. USA Baseball will cover all work related travel expenses.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Able to work both independently and in a team setting.
• Professional communication skills
• Flexible and willing to perform other tasks as assigned.
• Lift/Carry up to 50 lbs.
• Weekend availability for all USA Baseball events taking place at the National Training Complex in Cary, NC from March – August.
Required Education:
• All candidates should be in possession of, or working toward, a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
