Full Time Job
The Director of the 18U National Team program annually develops and executes the strategic plan for the USA Baseball 18U National Team program, including the player identification process, the 16U and 17U National Team Development Programs (NTDP), and the national team. This individual is part of a team of directors who oversee the USA Baseball national team programs and is supported by a seasonal intern who assists in executing the strategic plan.
Since 1978 USA Baseball has been the national governing body (NGB) for amateur baseball. It represents the sport in the United States as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and internationally as a member federation of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
The 2017 USA Baseball 18U National Team was comprised of some of the most talented rising high school seniors from across the country and the team captured gold at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada.
Additionally, the 16U NTDP was created in 2018 to complement the existing 17U NTDP. Those two programs serve as a pathway to the 18U National Team.
Position Responsibilities
• Oversee year-round recruiting of players for the USA Baseball 18U National Team program and the identification of its coaches and support staff
• Oversee budgeting and day-to-day administration of the USA Baseball 18U National Team program, including traveling with the team to the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup or the COPABE U-18 Pan-American Championships
• Oversee budgeting and day-to-day administration of the USA Baseball 16U and 17U National Team Development Programs (NTDPs)
• Assist in the identification and recruiting of teams for the USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI)
• Provide operational support for other USA Baseball national teams and key events including the National Team Identification Series (NTIS)
• Ongoing communication with current and former 18U National Team players as part of the organization's alumni program
• Regular communication to the baseball community through social media outlets including Twitter
• Development of feature story concepts for the media relations department to implement across the organization's various communications channels
Interns
• One full-time 18U National Team intern (February 1 – September 30)
Required Qualifications
• All candidates must demonstrate computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
• Must have an excellent attitude and work well in a team setting
• Flexible and adaptable work schedule for changing organizational needs
• Flexibility to work weekends – with particular emphasis on the months from June - September
• Willingness to travel to identification events throughout the United States and to international events
• Support the Collegiate, 18U, 15U, 12U, and Women's national teams with the implementation of their strategic plans for athlete identification
• Foster the continued development of the USA Baseball National Team Championships program across all age-levels
• Mentor seasonal interns on working in sports and for a not-for-profit organization
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding of the budgeting process and past responsibility for profit and loss
• Passionate about baseball with an understanding of the amateur baseball landscape
• Ability to work in a social media-driven environment and integrate social media opportunities into the 18U National Team program
• Vision to see new revenue opportunities at existing and new events
Required Education
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college/university

• Based on experience

Additional Information
USA Baseball is a rapidly growing not-for-profit organization with a fast-paced work environment. Within the past ten years, the organization has added marquee events including the USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI), two USA Baseball National Team Development Programs and the 12U National Team program.
The organization opened a $12 million four-field National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, in 2007, which is the cornerstone of the organization's on-field programming. Over 100 current Major League Baseball players are alumni of USA Baseball's national team programs, including Bryce Harper ('08 and '09), David Price ('05 and '06), Stephen Strasburg ('08), Mike Trout ('10) and Justin Verlander ('03).
