Description
COMMERCIAL AFFAIRS INTERNSHIP
Universal Music Canada is proud to offer students the opportunity to gain hands on experience in the music industry through our Unpaid Internship Program commencing Winter 2019 ( January to April 2019 ). Today’s students may be tomorrow’s employees and this placement will provide interested students with the chance to work with and learn directly from music industry professionals.
As UM’s Commercial Affairs department is now fully integrated (Retail Sales & Marketing, D2C Sales & Marketing, Bravado Sales & Marketing) we will require assistance with our da ily activities in all areas of the business – great opportunity to learn from different professionals!
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting Marketing Coordinator, Sales Reps / Managers and Account Executives with day to day duties, including but not limited to:
• Sourcing promotional materials (artist assets - packshots , publicity photos, bio’s, etc.)
• Submitting various artwork requests, interactive requests
• Assisting Marketing Managers with retail events (in-stores etc.) and p lacing gratis orders
• Store checks (going into various store locations in surrounding area, ensuring campaigns are being executed properly/visible)
• Various research projects for third party and sales opportunities etc.
• Cold calling non-traditional retailers to gather data for sales opportunities
• Updating Release schedules
• Attend weekly Commercial Affairs Marketing Meeting – planning/brainstorming for forthcoming releases
• Various reporting
• Pulling product information (i.e. UPC, Catalogue #s, etc.)
• Licensing approvals
• Concept Submission - Filling out submission forms
• Tracking Approvals - Filling out and maintaining Product Outline Trackers
• Shipping out samples
• Finding art and p ulling style guides
• Bravado Inventory tracking, including c ounting , s toring and, p ulling items for giveaways, etc .
• Presentations - Put together a quarterly trends presentation b ased on photos provided by Hong during retail visits
• “Cool Hunting” - Searching for the next fidget spinner, current tour/fashion trends, and other interesting custom branded items we can offer our marketing team, as well as our artists
• Find websites to mine for product ideas
• Search for artists whose merch is interesting and can be used for inspirational purposes
• Canadian Artist/Band Sourcing - Search for Canadian artists who regularly tour North America and c reate a database of these artists and their contact info rmation, so we can approach them for tour deals
• Presentations - Assist with creating product presentations for touring artists
• ASANA Maintenance - Assist with keeping order details up to date in ASANA
• Uniport - Assist with the creation of POs in Uniport
The Intern will also have the opportunity to sit in and participate in our department meetings for learning purposes. This will ensure they receive well rounded experience in all areas of the business.
R equirements :
• Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program that requires a placement
• Passion for music
• Proficient in MS Office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Out look, Excel, etc. )
• Ability to work independently and in a team with g ood organizational skills
