The A Side: A Day in The Life
At the core of UMG’s assets is an enormous catalogue of music recordings, each of which comes with its associated set of metadata. Given the scale, managing, mining and monetising this repertoire and supporting data is a constant challenge. As a response to this, UMG has built a set of web-based search and discovery tools that rely on a suite of APIs and data aggregation, clean-up and formatting processes.
The aim of this internship is to explore the use of new modalities for search and discovery of the catalogue, such as chat bots. This is particularly relevant in the current context of rapid growth of new user interfaces such as voice assistants. Because chat bots interact with natural language, exploring Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques is also in scope. This project will rely on core authority data and be related to real business cases that can be directly tested against.
The successful candidate would be expected to develop pilot Bots to test technology, data and user requirements as well as communicating results and liaising with the stakeholders. Although the candidate will have this specific focus, they will also have support and liaison from the team developing the main data set and UIs working in the same office.
The B Side: Skills & Experience The ideal candidate should have or be working towards a Master’s degree or PhD and/or have equivalent relevant qualification/experience in software engineering, search/document retrieval technology, chatbot technology, NLP or related field.
