UMG Nashville is looking for an Editor & Creative Director. This position is for Sounds Like Nashville, a UMG-affiliated editorial website covering the music, the culture and the lifestyle of Nashville and the country community.
This full-time role based in Nashville is ideal for a candidate who has a head for pitching ideas, execution and ready to bring creative concepts and content to the table.
UMG Nashville consists of Capitol Records Nashville, EMI Records Nashville, MCA Nashville and Mercury Nashville. Together their roster of artists reads like a who’s who of Music Row stars, including Alan Jackson, Chris Stapleton, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, George Strait, Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt, Shania Twain and Vince Gill.
Job Functions:
• Work with strategic partners on editorial vision and content mix.
• Manage a significant amount of content creation on SLN site, including several daily news posts, event coverage, and larger editorial projects. T
• Manage writers and videographers as needed.
• Create and maintain relationships with key players in the Country Music space such as: labels/artists/managers/other representatives, lifestyle experts, brands, influencers, etc.
• Oversee all social media activities for the brand.
• Make ongoing changes to content strategy and presentation based on analytics to aid audience growth.
• Work with Sales and Marketing to develop events designed to drive audience, brand awareness, and revenue.
• Develop content for newsletters (including subject lines, preheaders, etc ) and regular review open rates and other statistics to optimize.
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Extremely strong written communication skills that hold up when producing content very quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• A deep knowledge of and passion for Country Music and the associated lifestyle.
• Strong understanding of the digital media space, including audience development / SEO and marketing, as well as available content channels and the best ways to make use of each.
• Proven success in driving traffic with social media, organic search, and other creative methods.
• Experience working with a CMS necessary. WordPress preferred.
• Working knowledge of programs like Photoshop to create and produce simple graphics as needed (e.g., photo crops, memes).
• Comfortability “working lean” - while we expect the property to grow, it will initially be relatively resource-light.
• Excellent teamwork skills, but with an ability to work independently when needed as well.
• An extremely detail-oriented and proactive attitude with a high level of personal accountability.
Experience:
• 5 years working with a digital editorial property (daily publishing preferred). Management experience a plus.
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or other related field.
