Job title: Director, Rights Operations
Responsible to: SVP Global Rights Operations
Department: Global Rights Operations
Location of work: Kings Cross
Main purpose of role
This position will be responsible for the implementation and support of consistent rights management processes across Universal’s major territories outside of North America. They will work with the head of Rights Operations as well as the North American lead to support on-going communication of the vision and objectives of rights management to all relevant departments within Universal’s labels, with a specific focus on Business Affairs.
Work daily with label business affairs (legal) and clearance departments, as well as central royalties, business affairs, and commercial teams to support the rights management process. This role requires that you learn and fully understand the detailed rights provisions found in recording agreements to support in-depth contractual discussions with the legal community. It also includes providing operational support, managing and following up on various projects and initiatives, and collecting KPIs to be reported back to key stakeholders.
Travel to Universal’s international offices to document the key resources at each label and the “as is” rights management process followed by implementation of improved processes.
Work with the technical teams and serve as a rights product ‘expert’. Design, maintain and document all business user guides. Train business users on new software and business processes and provide first line business support. Oversee the creation and distribution of release notes to accompany each new release which translate technical developments into business-relevant language. Oversee the preparation of ongoing reports, analysis, and status updates regarding the rights management process.

• Strong documentation skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to multi-task and balance multiple priorities at once
• Strong organization and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain focus and complete detailed contractual analysis and business process design
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio)
• Strong technical skills (experience and comfortability using web-based applications)
Experience:
• Experience in the music industry
• Management experience (multiple direct reports)
• Rights management / administration experience
• Business process & improvement support
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in music business)
